Summary of Position:

The Network Administrator is responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, maintenance and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise network infrastructure. Serves as a technical expert in the area of network administration for Core and Edge network devices, wireless system, and Cisco Unified communication infrastructure.  Recommends the redesign and configuration of networking and communications infrastructure. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of communication requirements and develops specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department.

 

Qualifications

Education:     

  • Associates degree in Information Systems or combination of education and network certifications required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Three years' work experience as a network administrator or telecommunications administrator preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Work experience in managed switch (Cisco, Aruba, etc.) configuration, wired, wireless, data and voice networking, high availability, and resource management.
  • Knowledge in IP networking, subnetting, routing protocols, and VPN setup.
  • Maintain network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Establish network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; enforcing network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
  • Working knowledge of Aruba OS, Aruba OS-CX, Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS-XE, Cisco NXOS, L2/L3 Forwarding, VLANs, CDP, LLDP, Port-Channeling/VPC, Trunking, ACL, NAT/PAT, AAA (TACACS/Radius), VPN Tunnels (ISAKMP/IPSEC), CoS/QoS, STP/MSTP, RSTP, DHCP, DNS, HSRP/VRRP, Netflow, Multicast (IGMP/PIM), OSPF/BGP, SDWAN, VOIP/Telephony, Wireshark, & endpoint device security.

 

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate R&S, Wireless, or Collaboration, or equivalent networking certification preferred.
  • Cisco CCNP or equivalent networking certification level is preferred.

  • Normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate while in the office.
  • Occasional travel to various health system locations.
  • Scheduled Nights and Weekend work is required during system implementation and down time events.
  • Exposure to stressful environments, system down time events and shifting priorities.
  • Work environment includes typical computer related noise levels and paper and equipment generated dust.
  • Occasional travel to remote offices and CVMC.
  • The incumbent is on call to provide support during off hours.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Provide consistently exceptional care at all times.
  2. Manage day-to-day operations of the network infrastructure, wired and wireless, and the unified communications systems by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. Ensure that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Appl firmware and software revisions or updates. Work with vendors to assist support activities.
  3. Develop new network segment design, implementation plan and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
  4. Produce training documentation for the technical staff in how to use new application and hardware developed and/or acquired.
  5. Perform troubleshooting as required. As such, lead problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.
  6. Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical network resources.
  7. Develop procedures and documentation for support and troubleshooting of network equipment, infrastructure and the unified communication system.
  8. Develop and coordinate project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations.
  9. Provide leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.
  10. Stay current with technological developments in network administration technology and recommend ways for Barton Health to take advantage of new technology.
  11. Respond to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
