*** 10 hour shifts ***

Summary of Position: 

The Lead Clinical Engineer performs a variety of routine and complex tasks. This position is responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance of the Medical Equipment Management program.  This position coordinates department activities, ensuring safety of patients and staff.  The Lead Clinical Engineer  oversees training and ensures staff competencies while also ensuring that ongoing monitoring of departmental indicators and Performance Improvement (PI) activities and reports activities as required.  This position is also responsible for drafting, reviewing and updating the policies for the Medical Equipment Management program.

 

Qualifications

Education:

• Associates degree in Clinical and/or Biomedical Engineering, or a minimum of 3 years recent experience as a Clinical and/or Biomedical Engineer in healthcare.

 

Experience:

• Minimum three years of recent work experience and/or training as a Clinical Engineer; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the clinical engineering field.

• Healthcare experience preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to demonstrate competency in the use and operation of all required test equipment.

• Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.

• A working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology.

• Experience with the Joint Commission Accreditation process.

• In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate.

• Sufficient computer skills are required. 

• Able to work with word and excel, create excel graphical reports.

• In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate.

• Understanding of building preventative maintenance programs and data entry.

 

Certifications/Licensure:

• Manufacture certification on specified OEM medical equipment preferred

• Valid California license or ability to obtain prior to start date.

• Three-year DMV printout showing clean driving record.

Essential Functions

1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.

2. Maintains, repairs and installs medical equipment and systems

3. Plans, trains others, and installs, maintains and repairs sophisticated medical equipment and systems utilized in the diagnosis treatment and monitoring of patients 

4. Conducts repairs on electrical equipment, sterilizing equipment, and all facets biomedical equipment for the management of biomedical systems, including patient care equipment may include, beds, nurses call systems. 

5. Performs scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance and electrical safety tests of biomedical equipment where applicable to maintain code compliance

6. Responsible for documenting the results of all inspections, maintenance and tests

7. Oversees and manages projects as it relates to the Medical Equipment Management Program.  

8. Reviews clinical equipment contracts and informs Supply Chain when the medical equipment contract is due for renewal.  

9. Responsible for procurement as it relates to the Medical Equipment Management Program and end of life of the medical equipment.

10. Responds to pages in a timely fashion and may be required to respond to emergency codes when applicable; attend Environment of Care meetings.  

11. Maintains and has oversight of medical equipment asset management database and preventative maintenance program.

12. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
