As a member of the Space & Mission Systems Legal Department, located in Broomfield, Colorado, the selected individual will provide responsive, superb-quality support to the Space & Mission Systems business. We are looking for the right candidate to join a dynamic team in a fast-paced and growing environment supporting BAE Systems Inc. as it operates throughout the world.

These duties include, but are not limited to, providing legal opinions, interpretations, drafting of documents and other general legal assistance to all levels of Company personnel and management on legal issues affecting the Company, with a focus on customer contracts.

The successful hire will ensure the business is in compliance and operates ethically within all relevant corporate and governmental directives, policies, regulations, and laws in its transactions and protect the company against potential claims and litigation.

What You'll Do:

  • Function in a generalist role supporting assigned businesses under direction of the Chief Counsel, with a focus on customer facing contracts.
  • Conduct legal research under minimum supervision and prepare written opinions based on that research.
  • Guide the successful resolution of legal problems, examine various documents and data and provides counsel to all levels of management, including senior management, on best courses of action.
  • Negotiate and prepare a variety of contractual documents including, but not limited to licenses, contracts, non-disclosure agreements and teaming agreements.
  • Analyze, prepare, and review various matters including contractual documents to ensure the Company's interests are protected. May consult with or refer matters to outside counsel as required, typically upon recommendation of the Chief Counsel.
  • May assist with analysis and advice regarding litigation and pre-litigation matters.
  • Conduct internal investigations under the supervision of the Chief Counsel.
  • Assist in the preparation of various legal training courses.
  • Accept other tasks as assigned by the Chief Counsel.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • A Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate Degree plus 10 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Admitted to the Colorado Bar or ability to be granted Single-Client admission to the Colorado Bar.
  • Experience working in the satellite, space or terrestrial telecommunications industries.
  • Experience with drafting and negotiating a broad range of federal and commercial technology procurements and transactions, including transaction agreements, subcontract agreements, co-development, and collaboration agreements.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as outstanding organizational and analytical skills required.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to handle a multitude of complex and challenging situations and to work with little supervision.
A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of the FAR, DFARS, and/or NFS, and other relevant government contracting rules and regulations.
  • Experience in a technology/product-based organization.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $181000 - $250000

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
