Position: Yard Operator (temporary)

Reports to: Yard Supervisor

Pay: $35.24; Although this starts as a temporary role, high performers are often converted to full-time Union employees

Summary: 

 

Maintain a safe and healthy environment, operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, and wear appropriate PPE as determined by the company for the safe operation of equipment required for the general housekeeping of the plant.

 

What you'll be contributing:

 

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.

  • Operate mobile equipment in a safe and effective manner

  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned equipment, document before and after state and report any deficiencies to the supervisor

  • Work within other departments when holding a relief position

  • Removal and replacement of refractory in Kiln

  • Properly inspect and operate Hy Vac.

  • Snow removal and salt spreading as required

  • Operate ball sorting machine

  • Report any deficiencies to the supervisor

  • Housekeeping duties as assigned

  • Any other duties as assigned when not required under normal classification

  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

 

  • Working outdoors at varied temperatures and weather conditions

  • Working indoors in varied conditions (ie. hot noisy, dusty)

  • Exposure to extreme heat

  • Working in confined spaces

  • Working at heights

  • Operating jackhammer

  • Shoveling debris

  • Lifting up to 70lbs

 

To succeed in this position, you will need:

 

  • High school graduation or equivalent is required

  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills to be able to interact with other departments.

  • Ability to operate various mobile equipment as required (i.e Bobcats, sweepers, small loaders, etc.)

  • Must have a valid “G” class driver's license

  • Ability to work afternoon shift as required

 

What to expect in a cement environment:

 

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant.  Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 90 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
