Summary:
This summer internship is meant to provide individuals with hands-on experience in our Communications Department onsite at our Corporate Office in Overland Park, Kansas. Interns will be assigned a corporate mentor and over the course of 8-12 weeks, complete a variety of communication projects for all of our locations across North America. Internships can and have previously led to offers for full-time jobs post-graduation. Projects taken on by our interns make a real difference for our company.
What you'll be contributing:
- Write, edit, and upload text and multimedia content, including feature articles and interviews, to online communication platforms including internal monitors, newsletters, and our intranet.
- Write (in various styles and formats) for diverse audiences and platforms including print, web, social media, and video
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
- Assist in planning, writing and managing e-newsletters.
- Update organization website with current events, relevant news, etc.
- Update all digital bulletin boards on an ongoing basis
- Update and maintain social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting Facebook updates
- Provide input for creative strategies and social media campaigns
- Manage editorial and event calendars
- Interns typically complete a variety of communication tasks with various departments within Ash Grove. .
- As part of this internship, you get hand-on experience in the day-to-day internal, external, and community relations at Ash Grove.
- Promote and follow all corporate safety guidelines.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
- Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Communications
- Students who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and have at least one semester of school after the internship are welcome to apply.
- Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize work with deadlines
- Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling communications materials to support Ash Grove
- Must be able to communicate effectively and conduct themselves professionally
- Must demonstrate strong sense of urgency and proactive approach
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Video editing experience, Photography skills and Social Media content creation experience preferred
- Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram etc.
- Understanding of the basic principles of public relations
