THE ROLE

The IP Systems Engineer will join AMD's S3 (Strategic Silicon Solutions) Business Unit within the IP Systems Engineering Team, contributing to semi‑custom SoC programs with a legacy that includes industry‑defining game consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. In this role, you will drive pre‑silicon validation, silicon bring‑up, debug, and production support for System Management and Power Management IP, while also owning embedded firmware development for internal microcontrollers.

You will play a critical role in ensuring AMD's semi‑custom IP meets the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance, while continuously improving AMD's capabilities and processes in firmware and IP validation.

THE PERSON

You are a highly motivated IP systems engineer with deep experience in embedded firmware, silicon validation, and HW/FW debug. You are comfortable working at the register level, collaborating closely with hardware, verification, and customer teams, and taking ownership of complex technical challenges across the silicon lifecycle.

You thrive in dynamic environments, learn new concepts quickly, and proactively identify opportunities to improve tools, methodologies, and workflows. You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively across disciplines, and are capable of independently driving work to completion. Technical leadership or mentoring experience is a strong plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Debug and support IP hardware and firmware issues discovered during pre‑silicon, silicon bring‑up, validation, and production phases
  • Lead cross‑functional technical discussions to drive issue resolution and alignment
  • Own development of testing frameworks and utility software using Python
  • Drive technical innovation to enhance AMD's IP and firmware validation capabilities, tools, and processes
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with embedded firmware, low‑level software, and post‑silicon validation
  • Strong proficiency in C, assembly, and scripting languages
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and apply new technical concepts
  • Extensive experience with IP‑ and system‑level bring‑up and ASIC debug methodologies
  • Hands‑on experience with System Management and Power Management subsystems
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to excel in a fast‑paced, collaborative team environment
  • Self‑starter with the ability to independently own and drive tasks to completion
ASSETS
  • Working knowledge of Linux‑based operating systems and environments

    • Graphics
    • Display
    • Multimedia
    • PCIe
    • Security
    • IO architectures
  • Experience with Doxygen or other software documentation generation tools
  • Experience with emulation or other pre‑silicon validation platforms
  • Hands‑on lab experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and related equipment
  • Experience with object‑oriented programming concepts
  • Familiarity with Git and/or Perforce version control systems
  • Technical leadership and mentoring experience
