THE TEAM:
AMD's Data Center GPU organization is transforming the industry with our AI based Graphic Processors. Our primary objective is to design exceptional products that drive the evolution of computing experiences, serving as the cornerstone for enterprise Data Centers, (AI) Artificial Intelligence, HPC and Embedded systems. THE ROLE:
AMD is searching for an experienced systems architect to set and drive future vision and technical requirements for memory, storage, and data infrastructure within AMD's Datacenter Solutions Group (DSG). This individual will join a team of seasoned system engineers spanning hardware and software, from node level to rack level design, AI training, inference, and agentic compute, from BIOS and security to cloud-native computing, from memory technologies to high performance fabrics, and more. The DSG Platform Architecture and Strategy team's goal is to drive our technical strategy to inform and influence AMD's Enterprise products, optimized for the vision of the future, via collaboration with internal stakeholders, customers, end users, and strategic partners.
THE PERSON:
Ideal candidates will have broad and deep system technology backgrounds, experience developing, influencing, and collaborating on strategy. Ability to translate workload/application trends to system architecture and SOC implications across the entire HW and SW stack.
- Ability to translate highly technical concepts into actionable plans.
- Ability to drive hands on proof of concepts to collect data and facts.
- Exceptional communication skills to address multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable presenting high level technology, roadmap, and strategy to customers or industry consortiums.
- Skill in analyzing tradeoffs and making analytical, fact-based recommendations that have substantial technical, business, and financial impacts.
- Ability to guide product definition by synthesizing insights from end customers, ISVs/IHVs, and strategic partners.
- Ability to build relationships with strategic customers and partners to ensure that AMD enterprise and embedded products are built to match the evolving needs of the market.
- Collaboration skills to engage a team of engineering, product management and business development professionals to achieve outstanding business results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with OEMs, end customers, ISV/IHV partners to understand workload and use case plans that facilitate joint roadmap definition.
- Partner with engineering to help drive reference platform requirements.
- Partner with SoC design teams and product management in providing a unified and clear platform / system level vision to influence AMD's SoC roadmap.
- Drive workload and application-level strategies internally and with industry partners / ecosystem.
- Represent and promote AMD datacenter system-level vision in industry consortiums, events, and strategic partnerships.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Desired candidates will have experience in most of the areas below:
- Experience as lead architect/engineer for Enterprise level storage platforms/sub-systems for markets such as Cloud, AI, Storage, HPC, Edge, 5G, or Embedded compute platforms
- Deep understanding of computer architectures based on CPUs
- x86 experience highly desired. Experience with additional CPU architectures a plus
- Experience developing platforms with high-speed digital design and interconnects and a thorough understanding of the engineering tradeoffs involved
- Storage & Media experience (i.e. flash, storage-class memory, RAID, SSDs, DDR, NVMe, NVMe-oF, NVM programming)
- Understanding of dataflow and memory tiering concepts
- Extensive knowledge of storage protocols and architectures
- Networking & IO experience (i.e Ethernet, Infiniband, SmartNics, scale-up and scale-out fabrics, NVMe-oF, PCIe, CXL, UCIe, etc.)
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 10 or more years of applicable experience
LOCATION:
Team based out of Austin, Texas. Remote candidates will be considered.
