THE ROLE:

IREE is a full-stack, MLIR-based, open source compiler toolchain for ML models. It is built from the ground up to be able to target multiple hardware backends (like CPU, GPU and NPU devices). With an internship in this team, you would have the opportunity to contribute to codegeneration for the NPU, working across the stack from high-level tiling and data packing to low-level codegeneration for this architecture. You also get to work with a team of highly motivated talented engineers. Many of them are contributors/maintainers of the Structured op based compilation framework built in MLIR encompassing dialects like Linalg and Vector dialects and transformations in those dialects.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate possesses an innovative and problem-solving mindset, has a keen eye for Software engineering development, and is diligent and passionate about Technology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking a highly motivated Compiler Engineer intern/co-op to join our team. In this role you will
  • Come up to speed on IREEs compilation flow and dialects/transformations in MLIR that IREE relies upon.
  • Work with your mentor to
    • Scope out a specific problem that could be addressed in the internship time frame.
    • Build a working prototype/solution for the problem.
    • Ensure that there is adequate testing and maintain high code quality to be able to merge the changes into IREE/MLIR.
    • It is highly encouraged to make the work be part of publication in academic journals or submitted to technical conferences.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • You are currently enrolled at a university in a PhD program majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • If you have knowledge/experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply –
    • Strong background in compilers and optimization techniques.
    • Polyhedral compilation background is a plus, but not required.
    • Hands on experience in LLVM/MLIR is a plus, but not required.
    • Strong Program skills in C++.
    • Working knowledge of Python is highly desirable.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Currently enrolled at a university in a PhD program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
