THE ROLE:

The right engineer will drive the success of power IP (Intellectual Property) and features in AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) products through leadership & coordination, resolution of technical dependencies, and achievement of schedule commits. This is a high-visibility and widely multi-functional role, spanning pre-silicon architecture to post-silicon implementation & product delivery.

We are looking for a Senior Linux Kernel Engineer (10+ years) to design, develop, integrate, and productize Graphics (GFX), Multimedia (MM), Display, and MIPI/Camera drivers on x86 platforms. This role requires strong Linux kernel fundamentals, hands‑on driver development, and system‑level debugging skills across the GPU/DRM/KMS stack, V4L2/media pipeline, and MIPI/ISP integration, with a focus on production robustness and upstream‑grade engineering.

The ideal candidate will own end‑to‑end power lifecycle, from early boot through runtime and low‑power states, working closely with firmware, silicon, validation, and performance teams to deliver production‑quality, power‑efficient platforms.

THE PERSON:

An aspiring Linux kernel developer with a strong grounding in Linux system expertise and hands-on experience and operating systems concepts who will develop skills to deliver responsive and efficient solutions that bring new AMD processors to market. Utilize polished written and verbal communication to work with both local and global colleagues towards a common end goal.  .

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate internal central engineering teams and develope new features, Integration, Bug fixes and productization of the Linux platform driver stack which is having GFX, Video, Display drivers, Virtualization, IO drivers, Audio, Ethernet driver, etc.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Linux kernel drivers and related components
  • Graphics / GPU enablement (kernel + integration aspects)
    • Display pipeline support
    • MIPI/Camera stack enablement and integration
    • Multimedia (encode/decode pipelines and kernel interfaces)
    • Develop and debug features in/around DRM/KMS display enablement, including modesetting, display bring‑up,
      stability, and regression handling.
  • Collaborate with user‑space stack owners (Mesa/Wayland/X, etc. where applicable) to ensure end‑to‑end
graphics enablement is correct and performant (integration‑oriented).
  • Understanding Kernel Video Drivers, Middleware, kernel interfaces relevant to video/media pipelines (e.g., V4L2/media areas where applicable).
  • MIPI/Camera driver development, integration for platform validation and customer delivery needs, upstream to mainline kernel.
  • Debug camera bring‑up issues across sensor/bridge/ISP integration points (as applicable to platform architecture).
  • Perform deep root‑cause analysis of complex issues spanning Linux kernel, driver module, firmware/BIOS/ACPI, hardware, and validation environments.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, validation, and customer teams to resolve platform issues and ensure program milestones are met
  • Contribute to upstream/open‑source initiatives when applicable (patch hygiene, reviews, backports, long‑term maintenance).
  • Stay current with Linux kernel trends across GFX/MM/Display/Media and platform enablement best practices.
  • Coordinate debug of issues and drive them to closure
  • Pull together meetings, set up clear agendas and follow up on action items
  • Deliver regular progress updates toward program goals
  • Make tough decisions such as priority calls based on partial or incomplete data
  • Proactively drive continuous improvement for post-silicon power and performance activities

  • Strong debugging skills using kernel/system tools and methods (crash/debug, logs, traces, repro isolation).
  • Experience delivering production code with strong collaboration and communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of Linux kernel internals, including:

    • Scheduler

    • Memory management

    • Interrupt handling

  • Device drivers and MM/Video frameworks

  • Hands on with VAAP/gstreamer/ffmpeg on x86 platforms.

  • Excellent debugging skills on complex, multi‑core systems.

  • Strong communication and cross‑team collaboration skills.

  • Linux kernel upstream contributions in Multimedia/Video Drivers, driver subsystems.

  • Exposure to embedded or SoC‑based Video/GFX/Display architectures.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, planning, and technical leadership skills
