ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.

At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world's most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future.

Whether you're designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we'll advance your career.

THE ROLE:

AMD's DC GPU Firmware team is looking for a Senior Embedded Firmware Lead: a hands-on technical authority who will drive and deliver modular, high-quality, extensible firmware for AMD EPYC™ servers, Data Center GPU products, and AI racks.

You will join a core team of exceptional industry specialists, working side by side with architecture, firmware QA, silicon validation, platform, and customer-facing engineering teams. As a key member of the technical management staff, you will help shape the vision and strategy for continuous integration, stronger development processes, and gains in both quality and productivity.

If you thrive at the intersection of deep embedded systems expertise and cross-functional technical leadership, this role offers a rare opportunity to make a real impact on cutting-edge hardware.

THE PERSON:

You are a self-directed, technically rigorous engineer who is equally comfortable writing complex embedded firmware and guiding others through architectural decisions. You communicate clearly, in code and in conversation, and you can turn ambiguous problems into structured, actionable plans.

You are a natural collaborator who builds trust across hardware, software, and customer teams without needing formal authority. You bring a continuous-improvement mindset, a bias toward action, and the patience to mentor engineers through challenging technical territory. You adapt quickly in fast-moving, multi-site environments and keep complex programs on track across remote teams and geographies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and drive embedded firmware development and QA for new and sustaining AMD EPYC Server and DC GPU products.
  • Own program outcomes across architecture, design, development, and debugging of firmware products.
  • Partner with the Platform and SW Architecture teams to bring up BIOS and firmware during Embedded SoC bring-up.
  • Work with HW and Silicon Validation teams to verify all embedded features in the silicon IP.
  • Guide software engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and licensing reviews for both open-source and closed-source code.
  • Provide product and technology feedback and consultancy to Enterprise Product Management, Enterprise Server Systems and SW teams, and AMD technology and product planning.
  • Support field requests and escalations from the Customer Applications Engineering team.
  • Build on the work of Core Engineering in the Client and Server teams, with a strong focus on enabling differentiating features that drive the success of the Embedded business.
  • Develop software proofs of concept (POCs) for early enablement of new technologies.
  • Mentor team members to grow their technical and soft skills and succeed at AMD.
  • Train and enable Applications Engineers and FAEs on software solutions, with a focus on AMD's differentiated features and technologies.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant industry experience and a track record of shipping server / storage / networking products for the enterprise, cloud data center and service provider markets.
  • Prior experience of working as a technical expert leading a core team of engineers and managing any complex architecture product in firmware, drivers & OS Stack.
  • Strong C/C++ development skills with a good understanding of object-oriented design.
  • Experience customization of the firmware for different platforms & features.
  • Prior experience in customer-facing / applications engineering role will be a big plus.
  • Direct experience with architecting, designing and developing complex system/infrastructure software for embedded networking systems on Linux or any other RTOS.
  • Deep understanding of full product life cycle, software development methods (both Agile and Waterfall), and development and build environments.
  • Ability to undertake loosely defined goals or complex problems to create order, and drive closure.
  • Ability to organize, delegate, and effectively deliver to large and complex programs.
  • Ability to drive multi-geo projects by working effectively with remote teams.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, highly dynamic environment, with a bias towards action and results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, listening, and written communication skills, both within the team and across the organization.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, teach, facilitate to drive change in a highly technical/dynamic team.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor of Technology / BS in Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred.
