THE TEAM

AMD's Client and Graphics Engineering organization is transforming the industry with our Graphic Processors. Our primary objective is to design exceptional products that drive the evolution of computing experiences.   THE ROLE  AMD is seeking a technical leader to join our cross-functional team working on the co-development of consumer and commercial notebook products. As a member of the AMD Client and Graphics Organization, the candidate will be responsible for testing, evaluating, and reporting power and performance results. You will interact with feature development teams, validation teams, and power and performance teams, as well as evaluate competitor systems and generate competitive analysis reports.   THE PERSON  We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in system power management, performance attainment, and competitive analysis. You should possess a deep understanding of mobile computer systems and be able to develop and standardize competitive analysis efforts across teams. Additionally, you should be familiar with the new product development process, computer system architecture, design for cost, and consumer product ergonomic and acoustic standards.   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Lead client and graphics engineering competitive analysis workstream, collaborating with subject matter experts to conduct 2nd and 3rd level deep dive analysis of subsystems and components.
  • Drive premium product development by optimizing power, performance architecture, and system-level features through collaboration with design, architecture, SOC teams, OEMs, and internal functions. Ensure alignment with power management, performance objectives, and customer needs.
  • Communicate progress and performance objectives to both AMD leadership and OEM customer teams.
  • Define and integrate requirements for internal design, performance, and product characterization efforts as it relates to OEM system and commercial customer needs.
  • Directly engage with OEM/ODM customer power and performance design teams, providing product projections, validation support, design assistance, and product training. This includes leading and supporting early customer engagement through Proof of Concept vehicle development for new AMD power and performance features.
  • Develop strong partnerships with program stakeholders across the organization and development partners.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Competitive analysis expertise: Drive competitive analysis, generate reports, and present findings to leadership to inform product recommendations.
  • System architecture and design: Deep understanding of PC and mobile system architecture including mechanical, board design, power delivery, and ergonomics optimization (skin temperature, acoustics, performance, battery).
  • APU/CPU expertise: Direct experience with APU/CPU system performance analysis, including architecture, thermal controls, firmware-controlled power and thermal management, and layout optimization for performance and size.
  • Thermal management expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of system thermal components and technologies (fans, heatsinks, shielding, spreaders, TIMs) and their impact on key components like VRAM, NVME, VR, memory, and charging circuits.
  • Effective communication and collaboration: Strong communication skills and ability to build respect while communicating status to executive-level audiences Bonus: Expert knowledge in heat transfer and fluid mechanics with advanced CFD modeling experience (Icepak or Flotherm) and mechanical CAD modeling (Creo or Solidworks).

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant discipline, Master's Degree (MS) preferred.
