Job Role and Responsibility: AMD, Inc. is hiring MTS S&A Hardware Engineer to Install, configure, and maintain an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers. Research, design, develop, and/or test operating systems-level software, compilers, and/or network distribution software for semiconductor operations, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Design and implement software and systems that involve and support internal systems. Interface with Datacenter Linux Kernel/Virtualization development team for hardware and software provisioning. Work with system and network administration of servers across multiple labs. Troubleshooting issues at the system, cluster and network level caused by both the pre-production nature of the systems, and errors in engineers' understanding of how to configure the system. Rack and stack servers, switches, routers, and other equipment as required. Replace components such as CPU, memory, hard drives, PCIe adapters. Maintain an accurate inventory of servers to reflect the correct model numbers, serial numbers, and locations of equipment in the lab and assist with tracking the usage of resources. Utilize knowledge of computers and electronics, including circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, applications, and programming, as well as knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. Apply knowledge of engineering principles, best practices, and technologies to the design, development, and testing of various AMD systems and products.

Qualifications: Degree required
Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related field.
Amount and type of experience required: Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.
Employer will accept alternate combination of education and experience: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related field and five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a closely related engineering role.

Specific skills required: The following skills are required:
With either combination of education and experience, position requires two (2) years of experience with the following technologies and/or skills:
• Automating and monitoring OS deployment;
• Patching and building Linux kernels;
• Programming and scripting skills with Bash or Python;
• Ansible, Jenkins, or OpenStack
• ACLs, TCP/IP, VLAN, or port security;
• Virtualization technology (KVM or QEMU); and
• LAN and WAN technologies.
