THE ROLE:

As AMD grows, growing our leadership in Firmware Verification Engineering expertise is essential for all the new products in the AMD pipeline.

 

As a Technical Lead (Fellow), you will grow and direct our strategy, partnerships, internal and external firmware verification technical direction and solution, and work closely with multiple cross-functional engineering teams to deliver features with high quality to AMD product and systems. This is a new, “ground floor” role within AMD's Central Platform Firmware Organization. Initial focus area for this role is to drive a cohesive strategy and plan alignment across all AMD Verification, Test and Firmware teams.

 

THE PERSON:

This will require significant cross functional coordination and teaming skills and an expert level of understanding of the involved technologies, capabilities and challenges pertaining Firmware Quality. Leading this effort will require an unusual mix of technical breadth and depth, problem solving, management skills, and soft skills. It's not for the overly introverted. It is for the ambitious engineering leader who appreciates having a high-visibility role and making a significant impact AMD's products. To be successful in this role, you'll also need to blend excellent technical knowledge of embedded firmware, experience with verification processes and tools, cross functional and cross company collaboration, mentoring and growing other technical leaders.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor high-performing firmware verification teams to ensure comprehensive test planning, automation, and validation coverage.
  • Design and own end-to-end pre-silicon firmware verification strategy across multiple product lines, ensuring alignment with product and quality goals.
  • Define and enforce quality metrics, including code coverage, defect escape rates, regression stability, and system integration readiness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware development, hardware, systems, and product management teams to define test scope and risk-based validation strategies.
  • Drive the development of scalable automated test frameworks, CI pipelines, diagnostics, and dashboards.
  • Lead firmware code and test reviews, mentoring engineers in best practices for test-driven development (TDD) and continuous integration (CI).
  • Influence technical decisions through expert knowledge and data-driven analysis, ensuring high product quality and compliance with industry standards.
  • Work closely with firmware developers to design for testability, define component/integration test plans, and ensure thorough verification of firmware features.
  • Present technical updates, test coverage analysis, and risk assessments to executive stakeholders, adapting communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to improve test efficiency, quality metrics, and root cause analysis frameworks across the organization.
  • Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout the engineering lifecycle.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in firmware development and validation for embedded systems.
  • Strong C/C++ programming experience for embedded targets (ARM Cortex-M or similar).
  • In-depth knowledge of unit test frameworks (e.g., Ceedling, Unity), integration testing methodologies, and HIL systems.
  • Experience with lab tools for hardware debugging.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale test automation pipelines using Python or equivalent scripting languages.
  • Proven leadership in delivering high-quality firmware across multiple product cycles.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to influence peers, engineers, and executives alike.
  • Experience communicating technical risk, mitigation plans, and quality status to executive leadership.

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree in software/computer engineering, Computer Science or other relevant fields.
