THE ROLE:  

The AMD Computing and Graphics Central Engineering team needs a dynamic, energetic technical manager to provide team leadership, technical guidance, and strategic vision within our automation team.  The CGC team is a key element of AMD's strategy to deliver the highest quality, industry-leading technologies to market.  In this role, you will be working collaboratively across the Client and Gaming business units to deliver unified automation solutions that increase the efficiency and capacity of the product delivery teams.  

THE PERSON:  

As an automation leader in Systems Design Engineering, you will drive balanced, scalable, and user-friendly test automation solutions. In this high visibility position, your knowledge of automation technologies, experience delivering automation solutions from idea phase to productization, and your ability to identify new opportunities for automation will be necessary to solve complex problems and increase efficiency and quality across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize key areas of our business where automation solutions can drive significant business benefit
  • Manage a team of 10-15 automation engineers
  • Understand challenges with company workflows and methodologies and identify appropriate automation solutions to increase team capability and efficiency, as well as product quality
  • Advise business leaders on a broad range of technology, strategy, and deployment issues associated with automation
  • Work on functional design, process design, prototyping, testing, training, and defining support procedures, in collaboration with automation and engineering teams across AMD
  • Articulate and document the solutions architecture and lessons learned for each solution delivered
  • Serve as liaison between stakeholders and project teams, delivering feedback and enabling team members to ensure solution requirements are met
  • Share automation technical knowledge with other team members to increase team capabilities

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  

  • Proven experience applying automation to practical technology challenges, implementing automation solutions from concept to production
  • Experience with software development methodologies and best practices
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies and environments, particularly Azure
  • Hands-on experience with silicon validation and/or power/performance analysis
  • Practical DevOps knowledge
  • Significant coding experience, including a deep knowledge of Python
  • Experience with source control tools (Git, in particular), issue management tools (e.g. JIRA), and project management framework tools (e.g. Agile, Kanban, Scrum)
  • Knowledge of basic algorithms, object-oriented and functional design principles, and code development best practices
  • People management of teams with at least 10 engineers
  • Experience leading teams that span multiple geographies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, with proven ability to lead through influence
  • Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, or related discipline preferred
