About the Role:

Are you passionate about driving innovation in process and operation technologies? Alcoa is seeking a dynamic Technical Manager to spearhead advancements for maximum economic gains and competitiveness for our Portland Smelter. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining world benchmark levels in emissions control while optimizing operating efficiencies.

As a key member of the site Lead Team, you'll provide strategic expertise in manufacturing operations and technical management. Your extensive experience in smelting and technical leadership will be instrumental in mentoring and coaching our team to success.

You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and adopt best practices.

Core Activities include:

  • Identify and minimise or eliminate risks associated with process tasks and projects.

  • Communicate Safety information and changes to Safety Standards.

  • Ensure participation of reports in Safety Meetings, high risk task processes and both critical and mandatory training is 100% complete.

  • Identify and lead opportunities to reduce emissions.

  • Process Improvement by development of existing standards and application of transferred technology and undertake Process Improvement trials.

  • Liaise with Centre of Excellence & Technology Teams to share information and help with problem solving.

  • Develop sampling plans for process to ensure data collected/trended can be used to support improvements.

  • Develop Technical Plans as a response to external and internal impacts.

  • Conduct Performance Reviews, gap analysis and develop activities and/or projects to close any gaps.

  • Review Raw Material supplies to Plant and gauge impact.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Degree qualified in Chemical or Process Engineering.

  • Technical leadership background with a highly collaborative management style and an ability to build effective relationships across functions and operations.

  • A passion for complex, highly technical problem solving with a track record in driving continuous improvement.

  • Aluminium smelting background would be highly desirable or similar.

  • A commitment to health and safety with experience of working in high-risk environments.

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%).
