About the Role

We have an exciting new development opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join the Australian Asset Management team and be part of the Alumina Refining PLC Obsolescence Project, one of the largest technology projects at Alcoa. The project spans over 8 years across all refining sites in Australia, Brazil and Spain and aims to modernise Alcoa's large PLC Control System and communications network infrastructure as part of our alignment with a Digital future.

In this role, you will be reporting into the Regional Asset Management team playing an integral part as the operational readiness SPA and be responsible for the following key activities:

  • Automation Inventory Management including management of decommissioned PLC hardware.

  • Management of WAO Refining automation technology roadmap.

  • Management of on-site automation support personnel.

  • Automation supplier contract management as it relates to PLC Modernisation, Technical Support and Parts Management agreement.

  • Subject matter expert for on-site and project related technical queries.

  • Cybersecurity and risk management PLC compliance for WA refining.

Modernisation Project related activities

  • Wet Commissioning - All testing where PLC system is installed and is brought back online into Production

  • Maintenance and Operational Readiness (Development of Asset numbers, BOMs, Asset Activities and Routes, acceptance of As-built drawings, Management of site FactoryTalk Asset Centre repository and PLC Installed Base Evaluation records).

  • Project Governance (ensuring Modernisation project is on schedule).

  • Quality Assurance of the PLC Engineering Solution Provider and Standardisation of equipment.

  • Training Development – Work with the EI Training department to develop training packages for the new PLC and legacy PLC systems to Engineers and Technicians needed to sustain and manage these assets into the future and ensure there is a training system and process put in place.

  • Develop and agree other “sustaining” requirements once project is completed.

  • PLC system hardware and network architecture modernisation design.

  • Development of scope of work for PLC modernisation and related shutdown planning.

  • Development of new or amendment of any PLC system drawings.

  • Assistance in installation and wet commissioning of all PLC systems in scope.

  • Network hardware IP Address Assignment and configuration (working with the ITAS APM team)

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications, Electrical Engineering are essential

  • Extensive experience preferred

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Allen Bradley's PLC

  • Familiarity with modern day Fibre-Ethernet networks such as Ethernet/IP

  • Preferably has experience in Capital Project execution
