As a Senior Industrial Engineer, you will lead the design and optimization of end-to-end distribution center processes that directly impact speed to shelf, cost efficiency, and service performance. You will analyze current-state workflows across receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping to identify opportunities to increase throughput, reduce touch points, and improve overall flow. Your work will help ensure the operation is positioned to flex with seasonal demand and evolving omnichannel fulfillment needs. 


In this role, you will develop data-driven recommendations for labor strategy, automation, slotting, and facility layout while balancing cost, scalability, and operational resiliency. You will build business cases, model scenarios, and quantify return on investment to support capital and process improvement decisions. From concept through implementation, you will partner closely with operations to bring ideas to life and validate that improvements deliver sustained results. 

Who You Will Work With

You will work side by side with Distribution Center leadership, operations managers, and frontline teams to translate engineering concepts into practical, executable solutions. You will also collaborate with cross-functional partners including IT, Finance, Maintenance, Safety, and external vendors to align technical designs with business priorities. 

As a trusted advisor, you will influence stakeholders at multiple levels, mentor early-career engineers, and help foster a culture of continuous improvement across the network.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, or a related field (required) 

  • Master's degree, PMP, or Lean Six Sigma certification (preferred) 

  • 7+ years of industrial engineering experience in high-volume distribution, fulfillment, retail, ecommerce, or 3PL environments (required) 

  • Experience supporting large-scale operations and complex supply chain networks 

  • Demonstrated success leading high-impact projects, including initiatives exceeding $1M in capital spend 

  • Hands-on experience with labor standards, engineered labor systems, and warehouse management systems 

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable operational insights 

  • Proficiency with tools such as Advanced Excel, data visualization, and engineering or layout software 

  • Ability to influence cross-functional partners and operational leaders without direct authority 

  • A team-first attitude; while your core duties are your priority, you're happy to step in wherever you're needed 

 

Work Style & Physical Requirements
  •  Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced distribution center environment 

  • Comfort balancing time between analytical work and on-the-floor operational support 

  • Willingness to travel up to 15% as needed 

  • Regular in-office attendance is required 

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant field of study required.

  • MS Operations Management, MS, MBA, Six Sigma – Black Belt preferred.

  • PM certification preferred.

Work Experiences:

  • 7+ years of related experience in distribution operations and mechanical or industrial engineering.

  • 5+ years of retail industry experience.

  • 3+ years of experience with MOST RFID, Robots, Warehousing Systems, Store Systems, or DC automation preferred.

Skills:

  • Strategic thinker and leader with ability to understand business strategy, provide consultative analysis, and recommend insightful / effective solutions.

  • Demonstrated strength in problem solving and analytics and capable of driving insights to actions.

  • Senior project manager skills.

  • Self-motivated and eager to succeed, with the ability to drive for results and influence senior managers, DC Directors, and business leaders.

  • Ability to proficiently utilize AutoCAD, Warehouse and Logistic Systems.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, create technical reports, and make formal presentations based on findings.

  • Change management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops business justification that supports ASO's strategy. Lead cross-functional projects using cutting edge retail industry concepts to reduce cost and improve profitability.

  • Collaborates with vendors, engineers, DC leadership, DC maintenance, and senior leaders to understand the specified material and the conveyance, transport, and other handling needs.

  • Evaluates current material handling processes, considering innovations in material and methods.

  • Recommends improvements to ensure most efficient and cost-effective handling procedures.

  • Drafts sketches, samples, technical documentation, user manuals, and written analysis of proposed designs or improvements to handling system and other related elements.

  • Estimates material needs, costs, and timelines for proposed projects.

  • Facilitates installation, testing, and debugging phases of projects.

  • Drives operational improvement initiatives in partnership with cross functional team members and senior leaders.

  • Provides actionable insights into MHE performance via data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of recommendations.

  • Evaluates MHE utilization and preventive maintenance programs and recommend improvements.

  • Develops project plan and baseline analysis, implements process improvement, ensures desired results were achieved, and continues assessment of new processes.

  • Implement and design process improvement changes to increase performance and reduce overall operating costs.

  • Mentoring entry level engineers and DC managers.

  • Develops a thorough understanding of the Academy's policies, procedures, and safety rules.

  • Duties may change; Team Members may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
