Description

A studio lead copywriter is a subject-matter expert who coaches and develops the creative teams to produce industry-leading content. This role mentors the team on brand standards, while maintaining an efficient and highly productive studio team. The lead copywriter consistently reviews and improves standards to meet the studio and company goals and initiatives. 

Job Description Details

Essential Duties and Responsibilities/Core Accountabilities 

Functional/Technical Skills 65%  

  • Acting as a point person and subject-matter expert for your team  

  • Providing monthly or ad hoc quality-assurance reviews for your teams' work, establishing goals and following up on results from developmental action plans 

  • Creating and modifying team training guides for new hires in conjunction with their supervisor 

  • Ensuring all glossaries, style guides and other reference materials are kept up to date   

  • Continuously assessing our standard operating procedures for improvement with the goals of efficiency, process, quality and cost 

  • Understanding the zulily brand and making decisions based on that criteria, developing standards and evolving the look of the brand  

 

Action-Oriented/Results-Driven  10% 

  • Providing on-trend inspiration to the team 

  • Ability to be flexible and join in production as needed  

  • Training new hires on quality standards and role expectations 

 

Interpersonal Savvy and Communication 25% 

 

  • Leading regular team huddles, and providing the team with updates and clear communication 

  • Participating in interviewing, reviewing pre-hiring testing if applicable and helping facilitate new-hire onboarding and training 

  • Acting as a liaison with other departments to successfully publish event content exceeding quality standards  

  • Monitoring all divisional communication for quality, customer focus and timely response times  

  • Ability to present objectives, key results and quality metrics to studio leadership and cross-functional business partners  

 

Expectations  

  • Adeptness at editing copy using in-house and Associated Press style guides  

  • Reviewing and evaluating applicants' writing tests, creativity and grammatical skills  

  • Training and providing quality reviews for editorial backup writers, and offering feedback for improvement 

Qualifications 

 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or 2 to 4 years' experience 

  • Preferred experience in leading creative teams     

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal 

  • Being self-driven, eager to learn and goal-oriented with strong time-management skills 

  • Collaborative leadership skills 

  • Calmness under pressure, with the ability to excel and thrive in a high-volume production environment 

  • Proactive problem-solving, both technically and creatively 

  • Exceptional work ethic, adaptability to ever-changing demands, with the ability to refocus and develop options for quick changes in projects 

  • Strong attention to detail and order
