Supervisor Hematology - (3200767) Description

1.Quality - Under the direction of the Lab Director and Laboratory Manager is responsible for technical and scientific standards, serves as clinical/technical resource and coordinates quality activities.
a.Responsible for the evaluation and selection of methodology and instrumentation to perform laboratory tests in consultation with Senior Laboratory Management. Responsible for the validation and implementation of new instrumentation. Ensures the standardization of test methodologies, procedures, instrumentation, and reference ranges.
b.Verifies test procedures performed and established the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including, but not limited to the linearity, precision and accuracy of each test and test system.
c.Ensures participation in and successful completion of a quality control and approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered. Troubleshoots any problems with the proficiency testing program. Establishes parameters for acceptable level of analytic performance. Ensures that quality is maintained throughout entire testing process from order entry through results reporting.
d.Critically analyzes patient data to formulate hypothesis and suggest testing protocol for physician to follow in confirming patient diagnosis, ensuring proper utilization of services.
e.Coordinates compliance with accrediting agencies and implement quality improvement program of assigned areas. Monitors industry trends and recommends appropriate response.
f.Acts as a consultant to pathologists, physicians, and multi-disciplinary team members.
g.Performs testing according to department policies. Accurately enters patient results into the LIS.
h.Organizes workload within the department to meet the needs of the institution within established
i.Responds to requests for emergency service in a timely manner.
j.Calls all critical results according to policy IM-34.
k.Reviews pending reports and resolves problems.
l.Maintains a clean workstation.
 
2.Operations - Ensures the proper and timely completion of work, the health and safety of employees and the overall efficient operation of the section.
.Assisting in interviewing, selecting, hiring and training new employees to work in the section and students when assigned.
a.Ensures timely, relevant, effective communication with staff and provides staff with forum to discuss ideas, concerns and potential decisions.
b.Coordinates efforts of team to maintain and /or implement changes in work processes to ensure high quality outcomes and meet established success indicators i.e.. TAT parameters; calling critical lab values.
c.Establishes appropriate performance expectations and job standards and competencies, maintains system for evaluating effectiveness and performance of staff.
d.Maintains high visibility in work areas and provides leadership for daily operational issues for team across all shifts and throughout assigned areas.

3.Customer Service - Promotes customer service by supporting Organization customer service behaviors.
.Takes proactive approach to meeting customer needs and ensuring positive outcomes.
a.Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of service provided, recommending and implementing change as required.

4.Performs in a manner to ensure the overall efficient operation of the department.
.Assists Lab management in any department specific changes, upgrades or projects in a timely manner.
a.Covers for the Lab Management in his/her absence. Serves as a resource person to others inside and outside the section.
b.Ensures continuing education in section is presented to staff.
c.Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and reagents.
d.Writes, updates and maintains procedures in the section.
e.Ensures that all preventative maintenance has been performed on all analyzers and equipment in the section.

  Qualifications  

Experience Minimum Required
• One year recent consecutive experience in specialty to include demonstrated abilities in a leadership/supervisory role as well as teaching, human resource development, communication and problem solving.

Experience Preferred/Desired
• Three years recent consecutive experience in specialty to include demonstrated abilities in teaching, human resource development, communication and problem solving.

Education Minimum Required
• BS in science

Education Preferred/Desired
• Degree in medical technology from a NAACLS accredited MT program.

Training Minimum Required
• NAACLS program completed or experience as required.

Training Preferred/Desired
• Medical Technology program.

Special Skills Minimum Required
• Demonstrated familiarity and experience with compliance and laboratory regulatory standards
• Familiar with computer and computerized equipment, organization and team skills.

Special Skills Preferred/Desired
• Working knowledge of computer and computerized equipment.

Licensure and/or Certifications Required
• ASCP
• Nationally accepted laboratory certifying agency. Specialty certs may include SBB, SC, SH, SI, SM.
