Join UChicago Medicine, as an IAM Business Systems Analyst - Intermediate in the Information Security Office. This position will be fully remote. At this time, UChicago Medicine is only able to hire in the states of IL, IN, MI and WI.  


Job Summary

Under the direction of the Identity & Access Management (IAM) Director, the IAM Business Systems Analyst - Intermediate (IAM BSA) provides technical support, IAM standards and guidelines, and processes for applicable IAM systems. The BSA translates business requirements into well-designed workflows and requirements while balancing user and business needs, technical competencies, industry developments, and time constraints.

The IAM BSA will lead and assist in applicable testing for functional releases and maintain procedural and/or technical documents, tip sheets, user videos, and other documentation or medium as needed. The IAM BSA contributes to decisions on project and infrastructure needs, including the evaluation of server technologies, languages, platforms, and frameworks.  The candidate will learn, support, and participate in regional and national Identity and Access Management (IAM) communities and organizations as appropriate. 


Formulates and defines specifications for complex IAM installations, maintenance, and upgrades. Identifies and analyzes performance and capacity issues. Leads the installation and maintenance of major operating system components, multiple program products, and ancillary system components. Serves as the technical authority on multiple operating system components. Works with users, project contacts, developers, engineers and other technical staff to resolve problems and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements. Addresses problems related to systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platforms. Diagnoses and repairs system failures. Provides on-call support for problem resolution. Takes an active role in developing departmental policies and procedures, as they relate to the use of programs. Develops user manuals and participates in user demonstrations and focus groups. Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge through a variety of information sources.


Essential Job Functions

  • Investigate, analyze, and document IAM requirements into build and design. The BSA will lead and support end user testing, bug tracking, and provide other organizational support such as enhancements management or task management.
  • Effectively collaborate with members of the UCM IAM team ensuring quality and delivery of solutions. Review and provide feedback on business requirements and proposed technical solutions. Participate in regional and national communities to expand and share knowledge unifying efforts to improve IAM. Brainstorm with team members to identify alternative solutions. Serve as a process/procedure and some technical support for the UCM IAM team
  • Supports IAM operations as needed in various functions such as Access Management, Epic Security, or DevOps support.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent education, training or work experience required
  • Understanding of the BA Body of Knowledge, Lean, Six Sigma, Business Process Management preferred (but can be trained).
  • Understanding of various project methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile, KanBan, Scalable Agile (SaFE) preferred (but can be trained).
  • A minimum of two years preferred programming experience developing, implementing, debugging and maintaining applications utilizing some of the following languages:
    • Java, Java EE
    • Perl, PHP, Python or Ruby
    • JavaScript, HTML and CSS
    • XML and JSON
    • SQL and transact SQL
  • Junior knowledge, with applicable years of experience and familiarity with multiple technologies, including:
    • Programming within a UNIX/Linux environment utilizing Unix Shell (bash)
    • Database systems and languages such as MySQL, SQL Server, NOSQL and Oracle
    • Programming LDAP in conjunction with an LDAP API such as open LDAP, JNDI, or Netscape
    • Web-service technologies, such as SOAP or REST
    • Single sign on technologies such as Shibboleth, Okta, or MS Azure
    • Open-source software and collaborating on open-source products
    • Network authentication tools such as RADIUS, or TACACS
    • Microsoft Active Directory
    • Version control software
  • A minimum of one year working with IAM systems and technologies
  • Previous experience working with open-source software and collaborating on open-source products
  • Previous experience mentoring junior resources
  • Experience with HIPAA, NIST, FERPA, and SOX preferred
