This is a remote, work from home opportunity and you may be based outside of the greater Chicagoland area. 


We are hiring for a variety of levels of experience from Associate to Specialist level based on relevant experience.


The Desktop Systems Engineer candidate is responsible for the design, management and support of moderate to complex desktop applications, operating systems and components with constant to minimal supervision based on level of experience. Areas of management and support may include but are not limited to, core operating systems; such as Macintosh and Windows, software distribution and anti-virus solutions. More senior Engineers are expected to manage multiple projects and upgrades simultaneously delivering within established guidelines and costs using both internal and external resources.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to management and support of all desktop enterprise solutions for operating systems, standard desktop imaging, patch management, Anti-virus and software distribution. Senior Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of core end user technology standards.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating system workstations and in support of business processing requirements.
  • Performs software installation and upgrade to operating systems and layered software packages utilizing effective distribution tools.
  • Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IS policies and procedures.
  • Manages desktop and handheld anti-virus and Anti-spyware tools and console.
  • Establishes and maintains standard hardware images.
  • Ensures workstations performance and reliability by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions and tools.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate hardware and desktop standards to meet business needs.
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures for end user device environment.
  • Supports custom software systems working closely with key vendors.
  • Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations to ensure compliance with established standards, policies and configuration guidelines.
  • Mentors less experienced support staff and peers.
  • Provides assistance when required, ensuring timely resolution and meeting all established SLA's.



  • Bachelor's degree in related technical area or technical training/experience equivalent required
  • Years of Experience:
    • Intermediate Level - At least two years experience working in field services or desktop engineering
    • Senior Level - At least six years experience working in field services or desktop engineering
    • Lead Level - At least 3 years of leadership experience leader a team with engineering responsibilities focusing on end-user device platforms
  • Server engineering or training preferred
  • Good understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts required
  • MCA or MCSE certification by accredited facility preferred
  • Macintosh support experience preferred
  • Experience with a help tracking system preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow-through required
  • Independent problem-solver. Sorts through issues and conducts comparative analysis of multiple solutions
  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills
  • Ability to effectively deliver services in a high volume environment required


Technical Abilities:

  • Experience managing Active Directory policies required
  • Extensive knowledge of PC operating systems and registry management required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Macintosh operating systems and integrated applications strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of PC hardware, software, operating systems, directory services, printing and applications required
  • Experience with wireless device management required
  • Comprehensive experience in analyzing complex functions, procedures and problems to find creative, logical and appropriate solutions required
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to complete projects and daily responsibilities both timely and effectively within established PMO practices required
  • Experience with software distribution systems required
  • Experience with Anti-virus management consoles and troubleshooting required
  • Experience with Anti-spyware solution preferred
  • Experience in hardware and software design, installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting required
  • 24 x 7 x 365 support requirements. Available to work after hours and weekends, as required
  • Skilled in problem analysis. Pays very close attention to detail. Able to solve problems completely is required
  • Able to work in a team environment or independently. Independent problem solving; self-direction required
