POSITION SUMMARY The certified prosthetist/orthotist evaluates, formulation of treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow up and practice management. Fits patients for devices, using static and dynamic alignments, assist physicians in formulating specifications and prescription for orthopedic and/ or prosthetic devices and design orthopedic and prosthetic devices according to physician#s prescription. Specifically, prosthetic involves artificial limbs (prostheses) to enhance the function and lifestyle of persons with limb loss and orthotics involves precision and creativity in the design and fabrication of external braces (orthoses) as part of the patient#s treatment process. Orthotic care may include but is not limited to patient evaluation, orthotic design, fabrication, fitting and modification to treat patients. Prosthetic care may include but is not limited to, patient evaluation, prosthetic design, fabrications, fitting and modification to treat limb loss for purposes of restoring physiological function and cosmesis. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Licenses and Certifications Required Current certification as a certified prosthetist/orthotist (American board for certification, CPO certified prosthetist/orthotist required). Educational Requirements An equivalent combination of education and experience to meet board eligibility. Special Skills or Training Requirements Demonstrate ability to effectively fit and deliver non-custom devices. Thorough understanding of medical terminology. Effective communication skills for accurate, concise and organized oral and written presentation and reports to patient and staff. Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on objectives of patient care services. Active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charges and correspondence. Good interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with physician, therapists and other staff. Ability to work effectively as a team member. Effective organizational, time management and planning skills.
