We are currently seeking a Part-time Environmental Scientist to join our growing company. Working in a positive team-focused atmosphere, you'll help Tetra Tech's Project Managers meet the needs of our diverse client base with environmental regulatory compliance needs based on accepted scientific principles and experience. The position will split its time between field work and the office. The applicant must possess a strong desire to learn, have excellent communication skills, and be able to contribute effectively as a team member.


The Environmental Scientist will perform environmental compliance oversight, implementation, and documentation for energy-related projects, including linear transmission installations, during construction and restoration phases. They will work cooperatively with other members of the Tetra Tech Project Team, including clients, engineers, regulators, and contractors. The Environmental Scientist will independently define, address, and resolve issues which may arise in the field and effectively communicate with the Project Team. The Environmental Scientist will report to the Project Manager or Operations Manager; work is independently executed under the guidance of the Tetra Tech Project Team.



  • Provide environmental compliance support (inspection/oversight) on several types of construction and/or environmental projects

  • Interpret and apply environmental regulations and permit requirements, technical documents, construction best management practices and drawings, and detailed technical project plans and specifications

  • Determine appropriate actions to fulfill requirements; as well as communicate these project components to others

  • Abide by the project schedules and budgets, coordinating travel plans, vehicle and equipment needs, and multi-party collaboration in a timely and efficient manner

  • Interact professionally with Project Team members, including clients, engineers, regulators, and contractors and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communication and participation in project meetings

  • Conduct pre-construction environmental compliance trainings and in-the-field “tailgate” trainings, as needed

  • Compile and produce sound and well-organized technical documents using a variety of computer software, as well as effectively present information and respond to questions from the Project Team and clients

The position may require the oversight of other Tetra Tech Project Team members assigned to projects, carried-out in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in environmental or science-related fields

  • Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience

  • Experience with coordinating and performing several types of activities simultaneously

  • Previous programmatic and technical experience with environmental compliance and energy-related projects

  • Strong communication skills, effective technical writing and verbal communication abilities

  • Experience with Windows-based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is required, and proficiency with GIS is preferred

  • Valid driver license and clean driving record

  • A flexible schedule and the ability to mobilize to project locations and perform work during all weather conditions

  • Observe and abide by policies and procedures outlined in project-specific health and safety plans and company Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures

  • May be required to obtain health & safety certifications, industry-approved trainings, or project-specific certifications
