The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is searching for a junior level environmental/chemical engineer to support assessment and remediation projects throughout North Carolina and the Southeast United States. The successful candidate will support in remediation system design, construction and operation and maintenance, site investigation, contamination evaluation, regulatory compliance implementation, report preparation, bid and proposal preparation and evaluation, and treatment methodology determination. Tetra Tech is seeking an environmental/chemical engineer, who has the ability to learn independently and adapt to diverse working requirements and conditions.

Responsibilities:
• This position will have field and non-field related responsibilities. Position may require a minimum of 50 percent field work and/or travel including extended days of overnight travel.
• Provide field, technical and task management support for CERCLA and RCRA investigations and remediation projects to include supporting the following type of work:
• Typical tasks will include independent field work planning, preparation, and management; drilling and monitoring well installation oversight; logging soil boreholes; remedial system implementation (e.g. subsurface injections) and knowledge of operation and maintenance; and report preparation including text, tables and figures. Field work will also consist of the collection and proper documentation of soil and groundwater samples to define the nature and extent of soil and groundwater contamination.
• Preparation of planning documents and field implementation of multi-media environmental sampling and remediation projects.
• Development of design documents, calculations and workflow for investigation and remediation of hazardous waste sites.
• Development of technical specifications, scopes and cost estimates to support procurement of subcontractors including environmental cleanup contractors, remediation system erection contractors, drilling contractors, analytical laboratories, etc.
• Preparation, development support, and evaluation of bids and pricing.
• Support regulatory compliance projects.
• Perform Phase I and II Environmental Due Diligence projects.
• Provide field oversight in support of the professional engineer or project manager to evaluate subcontractors to ensure work is carried out safely in accordance with contract specifications.
• Tabulate and assimilate field data collected into coherent products for transmittal to data management staff for upload into centralized databases.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

• Must have minimum of BS degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
• 0 to 3 years directly related professional experience in environmental consulting or closely related work.
• CADD experience is desirable.
• Basic computer skills required; advanced skills desirable.
• Knowledge of specialized computer software needed for data evaluation and remediation design is preferred
• OSHA 40-Hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training and being current on refreshers is desirable.
• Capable of performing fieldwork, which at times can be extensive.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Must have a good driving record and a valid Driver's License.
This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.
If this position requires a CAC card, CUI Enclave Access and/or a Security Clearance, a background check will be completed.

• A combination of office and fieldwork settings, with the majority of fieldwork conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Frequent travel to project sites, which may include remote locations requiring overnight stays.
• Exposure to natural environments, including wetlands, streams, and construction sites, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Language & Communication Skills: The position requires strong written and oral communication skills. The candidate must be fluent in the English language, both in writing and speaking. Specific requirements include:
• The ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports, permit applications, and project documentation.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients, regulatory agencies, and team members.
• Experience presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a professional manner.
Other Skills: The following skills are required and/or preferred for the position:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for document preparation and data analysis.
• Familiarity with GIS software for mapping and data visualization.
• Basic mathematical skills for data analysis and interpretation.
• Experience with environmental sampling and assessment tools and methodologies.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance standards relevant to aquatic resources and permitting processes.
