The Direct Support Professional (DSP) House Lead maintains the daily operation of the home by partnering with the supervisor in the delivery of administrative functions and by mentoring staff in the delivery of services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 
  • Completes all requirements of the Direct Support Professional II including but not limited to day to day care of clients in the home. 

  • Executes on daily tasks related to compliance including but not limited to daily documentation, incident reporting, staff scheduling, billing hours, and behavior tracking as directed by the supervisor.

  • Assists the supervisor in scheduling staff and ensuring appropriate staff coverage within the assigned home.

  • Acts as mentor in training new DSPs in the assigned home.

  • Fosters a one team approach (Person Centered Planning Coordinator, guardians, case managers, day programs, and administrative staff) related to the care and coordination of clients within the assigned home.

  • Thoroughly understands and appropriately uses safety care protocol, positive support plans, and behavior management plans.

  • Takes direction from a supervisor or designee and follows through with supervisory directions.

  • Promotes and maintains daily house routines (i.e. activities of daily living (ADLs); community involvement, transports, visits, appointments, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc.)

  • Acts as role model in the home for staff and residents, using professional and positive support strategies.

  • Identifies and responds to safety concerns within the assigned units (i.e. rock salt, shoveling walkways, and safety hazards within the assigned unit). 

  • Assesses client escalations to determine level of safety and utilizes appropriate deescalating skills.  

  • Oversees and coordinates medical needs in the home (medication administration, appointments, implementation of doctor orders, and communication with Medical Coordinator, Registered Nurse and supervisor.

  • Assists supervisor with auditing documentation for accuracy, including but not limited to: DSP daily documentation, PCP goals, ADLs, shift notes, behavioral tracking, MAR documentation.

  • Monitors and communicates needs of the home, including but not limited to: household goods, grocery ordering.

  • Maintains a working knowledge regarding all levels of medical needs including but not limited to: diabetic care, incontinent care, showering/hygiene, physical assisting.

  • Demonstrates and role models consumer and staff physical safety including ADL's.


  • High School Diploma


  • Must maintain a valid state driver's license.

  • Completed all DSP training modules.

  • CRMA Certification

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Safety Care Certified - including physical interventions

  • Diabetic training completed


One(1) to three (3) years related experience working as a DSP required. Three (3)years is preferred.



  • Ability to model objective observation and communication.

  • Successful demonstrated competence in all duties and responsibilities required of a DSP I and II.
