Pro Sales - Outside Contractor Sales Associate
I. Job Summary
The outside contractor salesperson works directly with contractors and consumers building major projects by assisting them through sales and service of our products at the job site. This is a professional level position requiring independent judgment, personal initiative, and drive. Organizational skills are needed to best handle call reports, invoicing, expense accounts and keeping up with job activity. Requires ability to interact well with consumers, management, inside contractor team members, and other Stine associates. A high level of building material knowledge is needed.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Must be familiar and in compliance with Stine Policies and Procedures
B. Establish a list of contractors in the area and make a time schedule to visit with each one on a continual rotating basis.
C. Keep a log book and record the date, time, and contractor you visited with on a daily basis.
D. Make an effort to visit each regular customer on a regular basis throughout their project.
E. Meet with potential new customers or contractors that bring in their house plans for a material list and provide them with an estimate package.
F. Provide advice as to what materials are available to use in new home construction. Also provide for them a list of contractors and subcontractors.
G. Special order materials that we do not keep in stock.
H. Handle contractor and consumer complaints. Work with manager on major problems that may arise. Take care of complaints immediately.
I. While in the office, help with estimates, phone sales, wait on customers, etc. Log all estimates.
J. Review dodge reports and building permits with inside contractor sales team.
K. Review monthly sales reports with inside contractor sales team and delete jobs that you know are complete.
L. Attend contractor sales meeting with Corporate office when requested.
M. Schedule and attend contractor appreciation dinners and participate in preparation and clean-up.
N. Meet with architects occasionally to review brands of merchandise that we stock so they can spec in our materials on their plans.
O. Share your knowledge of building materials with fellow employees when they need advice or need help.
P. Keep track of records of expenses and turn in promptly.
Q. Attempt to be involved in building related industries outside of Stine Lumber, i.e. Home Building Association, etc.
R. Help plan and coordinate events to promote Stine Lumber and home building in the community.
S. Keep office desk area clean and organized.
T. Keep Corporate advised of competition's prices. U. Inform Corporate about any large jobs that we will be providing material on in the near future.
V. Co-ordinate with shipping clerk and office manager every new job or account, making sure to obtain for them clear directions to job site and any other pertinent information they may require such as legal description of property, etc.
W. Log all jobs & prospects on the Stine Loop keep them current daily. The above duties are not intended, nor should they be considered, a complete list of responsibilities. Times may arise when additional responsibilities are given by management as business necessitates.
A. Education: Must have a high school degree or equivalent as a minimum requirement.
B. Training and Experience: At least one year experience in the building material industry. Some experience with selling and servicing customers.
C. Job Knowledge: Should have a very good knowledge of the building material trade and estimating skills.
D. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical effort; involves standing, much walking, and medium lifting. (Important: This job is classified I the physical demands section of the job description [Form IV-31] as constant medium work and occasional heavy work.)
