Corporate Buyer

 

I.          Job Summary

The buyer is responsible for the planning and selecting of products for their department to sell in each store. They must analyze customer demands, and market trends in selecting products as well as the price and quality of those products to remain competitive. The buyer works with their assigned PA to facilitate the ordering and maintaining of product availability as well as managers in the stores to provide insight on the need for products within each market.  Products selected should maximize company profit as well as provide the customer with selection quality products. Also works directly with vendors to negotiate cost and availability of items, as well as to provide product knowledge training to salespeople within the stores.

 

II.        Qualifications

A. Education:   Must have a high school education or
equivalent and preferably some extended education beyond high school.

B. Training and Experience: A minimum of three years in the building industry or in a supervising role.

C. Job Knowledge: Should possess good knowledge of the building material industry
and of managing associates.

D. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical effort; involves standing, much walking
and medium lifting.  Works in and out of an air-conditioned environment. 
(Important: This job is classified in the physical demands section of
the job description [Form IV-31] as constant light work and occasional medium
work. 

 

III.        Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1)      Purchasing

a)      Negotiate programs and pricing for all stores

b)      Partner with our suppliers to obtain additional monies for advertising, merchandizing and incentives for our sales teams

c)      Maximize our sales opportunities and profits by making special purchases offered by our vendors

d)      Manufacturers credits are issued and received in a timely manner

2)      Merchandising

a)      Stores have all current production information, manufacturing rebate programs, incentive programs and point of sale material

b)      Store displays are set up according to our plan to sell program

c)      Insure that all products are displayed properly, priced, clean, operable and in step up order.

d)      Maintain a healthy inventory level of our core products

e)      All "special product" i.e. damaged, close outs, exchanged, and obsolete are sold in a
timely manner.

f)       Communicate daily with the dept managers on all sales activity

g)      Feedback on products and promotions as it relates to our sales goals



3)      Training

a)      Partner with vendors to ensure that our sales team are knowledgeable of all products we offer

b)      Conduct group and one-on-one training at all stores

c)      Special sales training programs offered at corporate office

d)      Read and review additive sales training materials, i.e. books, trade publications, attend seminars and DVD's

4)      Inventory- Distribution

a)      Daily focus on inventory levels in relation to company goals and turns

b)      Insure that all stores are stocked according to rate of sales and promotions

c)      Daily focus on aged, damaged, and obsolete inventory.

                    d.)  Positive communication with Store Manager and Department Managers as to the                      distribution, receiving, and housing of the product
  1. General

    1. Assist in setting daily monthly, and yearly sales goals

    2. Serve all store managers in product issues

    3. Initiate communication with all vendors to grow business

    4. Support all decisions from VP of PMM

    5. Provide products from all print ads and electronic media

    6. Support our marketing department with strong product promotions so that we are competitive in the markets in which we operate

    7. Meet all deadlines

    8. Provide our marketing team with advertisings co=op and merchandizing credits in a timely manner

    9. Responsible for the accuracy of product; pricing, a and description, in all print pieces

    10. Inform team members of all promotions, manufacturers rebates, gift cards, special financing, and delivery rebates in a timely manner

    11. Maintain a positive attitude, stay committed to core values, maintain the highest level of integrity and professionalism and work by the creed that "I don't know that difficult things can't be done."
