This position contributes to Starbucks' success by identifying and being a champion of the right solution to meet business needs and opportunities, while keeping an eye towards long-term scalability, resilience, and low operating cost. The sr technical product manager defines how a product or service integrates with other products and services to meet specific business goals, and serves as a change agent for the enhancement and extensibility of existing products and services within Starbucks Technology. 

You will be valued as a technical subject matter expert among business and engineering partners because you will maximize the value of your products and services through thoughtful, data-driven problem solving, crisp definition of MVP solutions, and cross-functional collaboration with peer technology teams and organizations. 

To be successful, the technical product manager needs to have significant technical acumen along with a strong product management background, with demonstrated experience in shaping a product or service's function within a larger enterprise technology context. This role will partner with cross-functional product managers and Starbucks Technology leaders to help define the roadmap priorities and ensure that it remains aligned with the broader strategic priorities. 

Summary of Key Responsibilities 
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 

Product Definition & Value  

  • Contributes innovative Data Quality and Data Governance business capabilities and customer features informed by technology trends and business strategy to the product or service roadmap 

  • Day-to-day project responsibilities to configure and implement data governance, data validation, data integrity, data profiling, data auditing, and data gap analyses solutions within our enterprise Data Quality Platform 

  • Translates customer experience and business strategy requirements into technical requirements  

  • Collaborate with business and technical users to define data quality rules, data cleansing and data remediation and develop corresponding solutions within our enterprise Data Quality Platform  

  • Influences decisions by providing technical consultation and direction to stakeholders 

  • Implement and institutionalize best practices to measure, develop and continually improve data quality across all data domains  

  • Influences and documents non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, resilience, usability, accessibility, security, and business continuity 

  • Represents customer experience context to engineering teams 

  • Recommends new technology trends and innovative products/features to the team 

 

Analysis & KPIs 

  • Develop metrics to target business problems and support strategic data quality initiatives  

  • Establish and manage data quality and data management KPIs and performance dashboards 

  • Analyzes data and uses results to justify product decisions and apply key learnings 

  • Investigate data quality issues, identifying root causes, and proactively problem solve and analyze issues to implement corrective solutions 

  • Defines data quality product health and performance metrics and dashboard/reporting requirements, and KPIs to measure performance against feature goals 

  • Identifies opportunities to improve feature performance and overall data quality product health using data 

 

Leadership & Communication 

  • Be a leader in driving data governance and data quality processes, methodologies, and tools 

  • Develop and foster an active data quality and data steward community through improved tools, processes, and procedures 

  • Owns effective relationships with engineering teams across Starbucks Technology 

  • Interacts directly with business stakeholders to understand business issues and to communicate ramifications of technical options 

  • Eliminates ambiguity in feature criteria and goals 

  • Presents solution options/recommendations clearly and persuasively to support business stakeholder decisions 

  • Influences & negotiates with teams across Starbucks Technology, with business partners, and with third-party vendors and resolves most issues independently 

  • Leads team members and peers in learning technical skills and business acumen 

 

Product Planning & Delivery 

  • Manage and execute operational activities within our enterprise Data Quality Platform 

  • Identifies and documents technical tradeoffs as well as dependencies and constraints 

  • Performs validation of feature against stated goals; facilitates user review/acceptance testing 

  • Manages the elimination of blocking issues during development  

  • Works with cross-functional engineering teams on feature sizing and delivery planning 

  • Practices iterative, agile development and is well versed in agile methodologies and tools 

  • Creates acceptance criteria/requirements to align with customer, business, and technical strategy goals 

  • Leads prioritization of backlog 



Job Qualifications

Basic Qualifications 

  • Proven track record (7+years) of successfully executing data quality activities including data validation, root cause remediation, improvement, governance, and measurement 

  • Data quality management tool implementation (5 years) 

  • Experience with data management tools and platforms such as Master Data Management, Metadata Management, Data Quality (5 years) 

  • Strong skills in SQL, logical/conceptual data modeling and analysis 

  • Proven experience implementing best practices in data management including: data cleansing, meta-data management, master data management and data quality using enterprise level COTS DQ Tools 

  • Intimate familiarity with Data Quality Management solutions  including SQL, BI Dashboards, ETL, and EDW, and ability to leverage this knowledge to meet business and technical requirements  

  • Experience implementing and configuring industry-leading Data Management Platforms (e.g. Ataccama, IBI, Informatica) and ability to become expert on new tools and technologies as they come along 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Data privacy in US and international markets (2 years) 

  • Data quality experience with an enterprise master data system, system of record, or data warehouse preferably in a complex and diverse systems environment (5 years) 

  • Working knowledge of structured and unstructured database structures, and SQL and NoSQL databases (5 years) 

  • Knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence principles (5 years) 

  • Knowledge of effective testing and data validation practices and methodologies (5 years) 

  • Relevant functional/business process experience (5 years) 

  • Data analysis (5 years) 

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in Computer Science, Information Systems, Informatics, or a related field or degree equivalentBachelor's degree with coursework in Computer Science, Information Systems, Informatics, or a related field or degree equivalent
