SCOPE OF POSITION

 

The Labor Relations and Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring Company compliance with local/state/federal laws with regard to general employment, advising the field on legal requirements and assisting with implementation of compliance requirements. Additionally, the role will require interpreting and ensuring compliance with labor contracts, as well as acting as a liaison between the Company and local union. 

 

The ideal candidate is adept at developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, bringing parties together to arrive to a mutually agreeable solution (or compromise) and using logic and reasoning to identify the best approach to address a problem or issue.



Responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Compliance

  • Develop plan and implement methods for compliance with local, state and federal labor and employment ordinances and statutes under the direction of in-house Employment Attorneys and in collaboration with Regional Human Resources Directors
  • Serve as a Business Partner in providing compliance guidance
  • Partner with Field HR Managers and Field HR Generalists to ensure compliance
  • Partner with Training Team to deliver targeted training on applicable laws, regulations, internal Company policies and compliance risks areas
  • Conduct ongoing legal research to ensure the Company stays current on Compliance and Labor Relations hot topics, industry trends, best practices and federal and state laws/guidance
  • Identify and implement proactive mechanisms to avoid compliance issues
  • Identify and implement any corrective action required by the Company to become compliant with a regulation or set of regulations if the Company is found to be non-compliant
  • Monitor developments in local, state and federal legislative changes
  • Read, understand and comprehend legislative materials

 

Labor Relations

  • Advise management on contracts, worker grievances, and disciplinary procedures
  • Lead meetings between management and labor
  • Partner with Field HR Managers and Field HR Generalists to ensure effective outcomes
  • Meet with union representatives
  • Draft bargaining proposals and rules or regulations
  • Ensure that Human Resources policies are consistent with union agreements
  • Interpret formal communications between management and labor
  • Investigate and respond to labor grievances in a timely manner
  • Train management on labor relations
  • Assist with negotiations, as needed
  • Assist with responses to administrative charges


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Preferred 2 years of labor relations and/or compliance experience
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Labor Relations or Human Resources 
  • Experience with multiple locations, stores, properties 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Organized and motivated self-starter who works well with minimal direction
  • Must be data-driven with a strong attention to detail
  • Computer-based program knowledge is expected (e.g., Google suite, Microsoft Suite)
