PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

In support of a DoD community of 100,000+ users protecting American interests domestically and abroad, the Network Engineer will participate in the design of end to end solutions, from requirements gathering, architecting, prototyping, integrating, testing and delivering of virtual and physical network infrastructure and services at the enterprise level. The Network Engineer will have two to eight (2-8) years' hands-on networking experience and be a passionate advocate in developing, validating, documenting, installing, configuring and testing network design solutions. The Network Engineer will:

  • Understand and be involved throughout the design process of a network from requirements definition, analysis of alternatives, justification, procurement, installation, configuration and test
  • Ability to analyze, design, and test network systems including both local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), including IPS, packet capture, and system logging tools and utilities
  • Perform network modeling and simulation (familiarity with IXIA is a plus) research, recommend and report network technology solutions that meet JIE, NIST and other relevant guidance for DoD systems
  • Contribute to data center subsystem designs to ensure appropriate hardware, software and configurations are selected and implemented in a manner that meets requirements for speed, throughput, and security on an enterprise level

    MINIMUM SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for cradle-to-grave large scale network design and security
  • Design, build, configure, optimize, test and document prototype system designs to develop new solutions for enterprise level storage, network and compute requirements that maximizes security and through put while reducing size, weight and power
  • Develop test and troubleshoot configurations for Nexus and Catalyst switches to meet program requirements Configurations may be created from scratch, or based on existing fielded configurations
  • Support fielding efforts to install engineered network systems in CONUS and OCONUS locations
  • Analyze a data center problem set, design an elegant solution, test it out, make revisions, and then install enterprise-scale network solutions for those in harm's way defending our nation.
  • Have an understanding through academic study and/or hands on experience how to use firewalls, load balancers, IPS, WAN accelerators, logging and packet capture tools to architect, test and field a network solution for the United States Marine Corps. Understanding of the technologies and a passion to create secure, optimized, and reliable network solutions may take the place of hands-on experience

    DESIRED SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of the data center Transport Boundary, specifically traffic flows through IPSs, DLPs, Firewalls, Packet Capture devices, and Packet Brokers
  • Knowledge of WAN optimization, WAN acceleration, BGP, and MPLS
  • Experience installing physical hardware in racks and provisioning virtual machines and appliances to support network operation, security and performance
  • Experience developing WAN/LAN hardware and software configurations

    EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Network Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or similar
  • Cisco certifications desired

    TRAVEL:
