General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for an important role that will report directly to the Director, Cloud Platforms & Infrastructure. The Senior Engineer, Cloud & Infrastructure will work collaboratively with the team to build, maintain, and support Sage Therapeutics' Infrastructure at our Cambridge and North Carolina offices as well as in the Cloud (AWS/Azure). This individual will have knowledge of Linux System Administration, be proficient at Windows systems, and have scripting and integration experience to assist with Infrastructure Automation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage cloud-based data center operations as well as on-premises datacenter, including environmental and security systems, resource, and performance management systems.

  • Help manage and set priorities for the design, maintenance, development, and evaluation of all infrastructure systems, including LANs, WANs, Internet, intranet, security, wireless implementations, and so on.

  • Create scripts and automations to assist with the operations of infrastructure and integrations.

  • Define hardware and software standards in conjunction with owners and stakeholders.

  • Test network and server performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network and server infrastructure.

  • Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.

  • Monitor and control the performance and status of corporate hardware and software systems; supervise delivery of end-user support services; provide reporting metrics on service delivery and operational availability; recommend upgrades/enhancements as needed.

  • Manage the diagnosis and repair of complex problems and factors effecting system security, system performance, and reliability.

  • Maintain data security and integrity, thorough, monitored backups, database management, security management, and application auditing.

  • Monitor and respond to hardware and software alarms using appropriate problem determination tools. Establish procedures for service call placement and escalation.

  • Supervise, direct, and instruct Technical Specialists, Administrators, Operations, and Production Management personnel as needed.

  • Work with team to design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.

  • Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure procurement and development efforts.

  • Assist with the operational budget, including maintenance contracts and supply ordering.

  • Assist with the corporate IS Architecture and Disaster Recovery planning and implementation management.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or 6+ years of equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience of system administration in Linux/Unix, Windows, Office 365 Administration, AWS infrastructure, and other cloud IaaS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge with Azure Active Directory/Active Directory, network fundamentals such as DNS/DHCP, switches, wireless, firewalls, VPN/Private Access, VMWare Virtualized Systems, and Server Administration Software or services.

  • Experience with running and maintaining scripting, such as Bash/Python and PowerShell.

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Understanding of SAML 2.0/OpenID/SCIM/PKI/SSO concepts, Security Landscape, and its application to Infrastructure and DevOps.

  • Experience with database administration and programming knowledge a plus.

  • Previous Pharma experience a plus, such as experience with GxP/Validation.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-volume environment.

  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to present technical ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, with all levels of management, as well as with external partners and vendors.

  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
