General Scope and Summary
SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for a highly visible role that is responsible for collaborating with other Medical Directors to help develop medical strategy and data generation activities for zuranolone. The position is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in the development and execution of the strategic pre-approval and lifecycle tactical brand plans as they pertain to Medical Affairs activities, including collaboration with Key National Opinion Leaders to guide medical strategy, as well as the provision of strategic guidance and oversight over field teams, early access, Phase 3b/4 clinical trial programs, and investigator initiated research (IIR).
Roles and Responsibilities
Collaborate with group of depression franchise Medical Directors in support of medical strategic needs of brand programs.
Collaborate with the Preclinical, Clinical Development, and Medical Affairs teams to translate clinical insights and data gaps into medical strategy.
Support and help to cultivate partnerships with cross-functional partners such as Clinical Development, Translational Science, Discovery, Patient Safety, Regulatory, Operations, Program Management, and Marketing to provide medical leadership in support of relevant therapeutic and disease area initiatives.
Assist in the operationalization of lifecycle management, including but not limited to Phase 3b/4 activities and post hoc analysis of data.
Work closely with Medical Sciences and Clinical Operations to ensure optimal collaboration and inclusion of external clinicians/KOLs in clinical trial planning, enrollment, and interpretation.
Interact with various investigators, KOLs, research institutions, and internal Sage departments to oversee and facilitate Medical Affairs objectives and ensure the medical and scientific merit of company activities.
Support short and long-term goals of Medical Affairs with respect to prioritization of research interests and prioritization of desired collaborations with specific investigators and institutions.
Provide oversight and leadership in review and approval of external resources, communication, and publications to ensure medical accuracy, objectivity, and fair-balance.
Facilitate cross-functional team (Medical Sciences, Medical Communication, Data Science, and Development teams) to perform post-hoc data analyses and identify opportunities to address clinical data gaps.
Collaborate with Medical Directors on the planning and execution of life-cycle management advisory boards with healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, etc.) to collect needed clinical insights to inform medical strategy.
Represent Sage at various scientific and clinical congress meetings.
Interact with other departments, including Commercial, Clinical, Safety, Legal, and Regulatory.
Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Basic Qualifications
MD, DO, or PhD/PharmD required.
5+ years of prior industry experience as Medical Director and experience in psychiatry.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience navigating joint collaborations with biotech companies.
Is seen as a scientific leader and collaborative partner to internal and external stakeholders.
Prior experience developing medical strategic and tactical plans in support of drug launch is highly preferred.
Sets and maintains high standards for self and team in area of responsibility.
Must possess excellent communication skills, relationship building capabilities, and proven ability to influence decision-making without authority.
Is able to manage and lead others through complex issues where there is no clear cut "right" answer and when there are conflicting needs within the organization.
Is able to perceive non-obvious opportunities by connecting the dots between existing knowledge, new data, and HCP unmet needs in real time.
Must be highly perceptive, socially intelligent, and intuitive.
Leadership skills, including a passion for working within multiple teams and proven ability to achieve results in a matrix organization.
Consistently and systematically collaborates with internal stakeholders to plan approach to bring meaningful value to healthcare providers.
