HSR Constructors is currently seeking a Laborer for the Virgin Trains USA Phase II Project that runs between West Palm Beach and Cocoa, Florida, with offices located in Melbourne and Ft. Pierce. This 128 mile-long project includes the construction of new track, the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing track; bridges; road crossings; and associated railroad signals work.

HSR Constructors is a joint venture of three of the leading railroad and transit contractors in the nation: Herzog, Stacy and Witbeck, and Railworks; who have joined to construct this fast-paced, high-profile project. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

Installs and repairs railroad track and embankments including special track work, road crossings, signage, and rail lubricators using hand and power tools and a wide variety of sizes and types of track machines including spike pullers, spike drivers, tie adze, hydraulic rail jacks, power wrenches, tie boring machines, rail drills, rail grinders, rail saws and highway trucks equipped with rail guide wheels, hydraulic booms, and lift gates to remove and replace ties, rails, fasteners (cut or screw spikes, anti-creepers, bolts, elastic clips, insulators, rail seat pads, and conventional and insulated rail joints),  special track work components, crushed rock ballast, crossing surfaces, paving, subgrade material, vegetation, signs, and structures. 
May work as a member of a crew or independently. 
May work under the direction of a Railroad Track Repair Leader or Railroad Track Welder and may direct the work of Railroad Track Repairer Helpers.
Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers and falling objects
Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED.
Three years' experience in railroad track construction and/or maintenance with two years' experience as a track maintenance worker using various machines for railroad construction or maintenance work in an operating railroad environment.
Knowledge of safe and efficient use of equipment and tools to perform construction and maintenance tasks.
Ability and willingness to follow instruction regarding work and safety.
Willingness to learn and understand operating rule.
Ability to complete work under time pressures and to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations.
Must be able to work well with others.
Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) the English language.
Experience using hand and power tools
Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures
Willingness to wear the proper and required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as hard hat,  safety vests, safety glasses or other eye protection, hearing protection, face shields and/ or other PPE required for specific tasks. Steel or hard-toed boots are required, and must be provided by employee
The ability to communicate in a professional manner with owners, owners representatives, coworkers and direct supervisor.
 
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
 
Physical Requirements

Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.); uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment
Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances;
Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning holding and pulling
Able to work in conditions with loud noise, work around heavy/ moving machinery/ bend, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals
Available to work a 40 hour work week subject to overtime, on call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
