Position Description:

The Electrical Engineer/Technician in the Jackson Center Extrusion Development Center uses their skills to assist the sites in becoming operationally better, and in troubleshooting complex issues.  The main job function is to assist both the sites and the department in expanding our company through new production lines and new sites using troubleshooting, programming, power distribution, and project management skills.  This work requires interacting with Vendors, Power Companies, Contractors, and Authorities having jurisdiction.   This role has the opportunity to travel to all Plastipak sites, both domestically and internationally.


Responsibilities:

  • At least 1 year experience with Project Management (Including development and tracking of project budgets and timelines)
  • Experience or Classes in NEC
  • Experience with Injection Molding Machinery and/or Blow Molding Machinery, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, and Generators a Plus
  • Experience with Circuit Breakers, Fuses, Switchgears, Distribution Panels, Transformers, & Wiring
  • Experience with Servo Systems
  • Design and wiring of equipment and electrical panels
  • Design and Evaluation of Distribution and Lighting Systems, including 600V and higher systems
  • Understanding of Electrical Safety, including Arc Flash
  • Understanding of Communication Systems & Communication Protocols, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus, and Devicenet
  • Programming of Allen Bradley ( RSLogix 5, 500 and/or 5000) and Siemens (Step 5 & 7) PLCs
  • Programming of Interface Systems, including RSView, Panel Builder, Iconics, Intellution, & Wonderware
  • Programming, Design and Troubleshooting of Servo Systems
  • AutoCAD (Layouts, Schematics and Single Line Diagrams)
  • Must be able to install, troubleshoot, and debug Production Equipment
  • Ability to write specifications for Electrical and other contractor bids, and design & performance specifications for purchased assets
  • Must be able to interface with suppliers and contractors in person and through verbal & written correspondence effectively, as well as multiple plant locations.
  • Must be able to keep and retain project documentation, including revision controls
  • Travel expected

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.  Three to five years' work experience in related field.

  • Solid oral and written communication skills; Strong organizational skills
  • Hands On/Can Do Attitude
  • Ladder Logic skills.
  • Previous education/experience w/ PLCs, vision systems, wiring, a plus.
  • Exposure to and good working knowledge of: AutoCad 14, Microsoft Projects, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
