  • Provide patient care in Radiology
  • Participate in fully in all aspects of procedure preparation, setup, breakdown, including moving patient and transport of patient as needed
  • Participate fully in pre and post procedure care as directed by attending MD. This includes contacting referring phsyicians, patients, relatives, and obtaining informed consent as directed and countersigned by attending MD
  • Administer intravascular contrast and obtain valid consent
  • Participate fully in patient scheduling as directed after case discussion with Attending MD
  • Participate in time out sessions and assure that documentation of sessions are performed properly and accurately
  • Administer appropriate IV medication including IV push as directed by Attending MD
  • Perform basic Interventional Radiology procedures as deemed appropriate by Attending CVIR MD, such as PICC placement, non-tunneled catheter placement, catheter removal
  • Clinically assess and monitor patients during procedures and studies
  • Administer local anesthetic and perform simple dermatotomy and basic venous and arterial punctures as deemed appropriate as directed by Attending MD
  • Write pre and post procedure notes to be countersigned by Attending or Resident MD
  • Insert nasogastric and bladder catheters
  • Start IV's and draw blood
  • Write routine orders including: Laboratory work, X-Rays, Diet and patient activity
  • Assist in VIR procedures as 1st or 2nd assistant as directed by Attending MD
  • Apply dressings, change dressings, place sutures, and remove sutures as directed by Attending MD
  • Handle and process biopsy and other specimens
  • Make entries in charts of patients as required (PA notes should be countersigned by the resident and/or Attending Physician, not less than 24 hours after procedures)
  • Handle any emergency situation compatible with his/her competencies, as determined by the supervising Attending or Resident. In all urgent situations, appropriate notification must be made immediately
  • Write discharge summaries, which must be countersigned by the Attending Physician


  • Current NYS registration as a Physician Assistant
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP, accredited PA educational program
  • Current certification issued by the NCCPA
  • May require completion of an approved ACLS program within the last two years and must be currently certified in BLS
  • Must have proven ability to work in a team environment and must be able to interact with patients and their families in a manner that instills confidence
