Qualifications

The candidate must possess a bachelor's degree plus 6 to 8 years of relevant experience.

 

The candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

- Experience planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining laboratory IP networks consisting of multiple VLANs, subnets, domains (i.e. management plane, data plane), domain protection mechanisms (e.g. access control list enforcement), and constructed with enterprise grade network switches and routers

- Experience planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining laboratory Linux systems, including virtual machine managers and equipment monitoring/NMS solutions, constructed with industry standard open source software solutions and operating systems

- Experience planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining organization software issue tracking and software repository solutions (e.g. Redmine/Git)

- Strong software configuration management skills to ensure infrastructure configuration is reliably tracked and reproducible

- Understanding of Systems Development Lifecycles

- Understanding of Information System Security practices and methodologies

- Ability to work independently, remotely, collaboratively and under consultative direction with clients and teams

 

Desired Qualifications: 

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are desired, but not required:

- Knowledge of the Federal Aviation Administration

- Understanding of FAA National Airspace System, ATC Communications a plus

- Experience with System Requirement and Design

- Experience with managing and coordinating test lab configuration activities

- Ability to collect and analyze data, and communicate technical information



Responsibilities

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Voice Switch and Recorder Program Office manages seven different programs that provide critical voice communications systems for Air Traffic Control (ATC) within the National Airspace System (NAS). These programs range from the maintainence of legacy voice switch and recorder equipment in use, to design of new systems and procurement of future services and equipment. The FAA is currently managing a new multi-year acquisition that will ultimately modernize air traffic control voice communications in the NAS over the next 10-15 years. The VS&R Security Team Systems Administrator will support the FAA with Systems Administration functions in New Jersey at the William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC), including planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining laboratory IP networks and systems consisting of multiple virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), multiple subnets and multiple domains. Support will also include System Administrator functions for planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining Linux systems, including virtual machine management and equipment monitoring/Network Management using industry standard open source software solutions/operating systems. The Systems Administrator will also perform software configuration management and maintain software issue tracking repositories (e.g. Redmine/Git), interact with a team comprised of Noblis, Subcontractors, System Vendors and FAA staff.
