MedStar Health is looking for a Nursing Assistant Youth Apprentice who will be under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Patient Care Technician (PCT). This will be a part-time position, and the Nursing Assistant Youth Apprentice performs delegated patient care activities in consideration with the developmental needs of each patient. Working alongside an RN, CNA, or PCT, the Youth Apprentice participates in the delivery of age-appropriate patient care in a supportive learning environment. These activities may include simple specimen collection (e.g., urine), activities of daily living (ADLs), nutritional support, patient mobility, vital signs, changing beds, replenishing room supplies, and assisting the healthcare team with specific treatments and/or procedures.
The Youth Apprentice in this position may perform all or a combination of the duties described, depending upon the assigned work area and the specific needs of the patients and the department. These job functions must be completed under the supervision of an RN, CNA, or PCT.

Primary Duties:
· Provide direct patient care by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), personal hygiene, feeding, ambulation, positioning, toileting, and range-of-motion exercises, ensuring comfort, dignity, and safety.
· Measure and document vital signs, intake/output, height/weight, and other pertinent data; assist with routine treatments, specimen collection, catheter and tube feeding care, dressing changes, and postmortem procedures.
· Support patient mobility, transport, and transfers; prepare patients for examinations, tests, and procedures; perform 1:1 observation and implement safety measures, including restraint application when necessary.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment by stocking supplies, changing linens, removing meal trays, and assisting with environmental services tasks.
· Communicate promptly and respectfully with patients, families, and the care team; report condition changes; respond to emergencies and assist with CPR as needed.
Qualifications:
· Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program required
· CNA- Certified Nursing Assistant from the state of Maryland upon hire required
· CPR- Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation within 90 days of hire required
· General health care experience in an acute care, long-term care or other settings preferred
This position has a hiring range of $18.00/hour.
