Surgical Oncology Clinic -

Our core values are compassion, integrity, excellence, teamwork and wholeness.The Patient Navigator-Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)-Cancer works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific direct and indirect patient care in the outpatient clinic environment serving patients eighteen years of age or older with suspected or confirmed malignancies or hematologic disorder(s). Orients patients to the clinic routine and prepares patients for examination. Cares for patients receiving chemotherapy and recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of complications/allergic reactions immediately to the RN and Medical Doctor (MD). Performs designated procedures and treatments which require knowledge and technical expertise within the LVN scope of practice and in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, techniques, and guidelines. Performs other duties as needed.
Graduate of a school of vocational nursing required. Minimum six months experience as an LVN required. Minimum one year clinical experience in oncology and/or hematology nursing or infusion center preferred.Demonstrates competencies in oncology/hematology nursing. In-depth knowledge of scope of practice for LVNs. Able to read, write legibly, and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Outlook, organization electronic medical record; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform basic patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; compose written material; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association required. California Intravenous (IV) Therapy certification and Blood Withdrawal certification required. Other certifications as identified in department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Additional Information
