Assures accuracy and quality acceptability of recipes and food items produced. Assists with maintaining overall cleanliness and sanitation of cook's area. Performs other duties as needed.
High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum six months food service experience with demonstrated cooking skills required. Minimum one year cooking experience preferred.Able to work with general cookware and kitchen equipment/machinery. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use equipment necessary for the position; Able to interact with co-workers and supervisors daily; provide instruction to new employees and dietetic students. Able to perform simple math functions in adjusting recipes, determining over/under production, and determining number of servings. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; Coordination to safely operate ovens, steamers, grill, mixer, deep fat fryer, garbage disposal, knives, food chopper; able to see and taste foods in evaluating quality of food items. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.Food Handler's Certificate from San Bernardino County Public Health Department required.
