For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Staff Member to work in the area of cancer and musculoskeletal biology. Our group studies the effect of trauma on bones and joints, with the aim of identifying therapeutic approaches that prevent the development of post traumatic osteoarthritis. This position is in the Human and Health Sciences group in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division. Essential Duties - Conduct research in the field of musculoskeletal biology, exploring biomechanics of bone and cartilage, metastasis to bone, and effects of radiation and microgravity on musculoskeletal biology. - Design, implement, and analyze experiments for the characterization of bone-cartilage interaction, use 14C- and 45Ca- labeling to quantify cartilage and bone metabolism and turnover. - Organize, analyze, and present data from research at seminars, technical meetings, national and international conferences. - Contribute to and actively participate in the conception, design, and execution of research to address defined problems. - Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory. - Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment and other national laboratories and industry to accomplish research goals. - Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Recent PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology, Genetics or Systems Biology, or related field, with emphasis in musculoskeletal biology, bone disease or radiation oncology. - Experience with one or more of the following areas: animal models of disease, in vivo imaging and phenotyping animals with genetic modifications. - Experience with histology, molecular biology, RNA isolation, RNA sequencing, delivering drugs and reagents to animal models, isolating tissues, processing tissues. - Experience with tissue culture, transfections and genetic manipulation of cell lines, in vitro. - Ability to understand and analyze complex molecular data. - Ability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution.
- Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information.
Desired Qualifications - Experience analyzing RNA sequencing. - Experience generating xenografts and allografts. - Experience with cell sorting.

Note: This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
