Job Title: QC / Lab Technician
Location: Cortland, IL
Pay Rate: $25/hr.
Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., occasional overtime as needed
Duration: 1-yr Contract
Interview: Onsite interview

 

The Foam R&D Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in supporting research activities through rigorous quality control, lab organization, and safety practices. This position ensures the integrity of raw materials and batch outputs, maintains a well-functioning lab environment, and prepares experimental setups for foam spraying. The technician will also contribute to the development and documentation of lab protocols, with a strong emphasis on safety and compliance. The candidate will work with both plant personnel and support R&D scientists.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Control

  • Perform quality control testing on raw materials and foam batches.
  • Maintain retains and electronic records for all QC samples.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and documentation procedures.

Lab Operations

  • Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, and equipment readiness.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of chemicals, supplies, and tools.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab instruments as needed.

Safety & Documentation

  • Participate in writing and reviewing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lab tasks, equipment, and protocols.
  • Promote a safety-first mindset and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  • Identify and report safety concerns and contribute to continuous improvement.

Research Support

  • Prepare and stage experimental setups for foam spray testing.
  • Assist researchers with material handling and equipment configuration.
  • Collaborate with scientists to ensure smooth execution of R&D experiments.


Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required; B.S. in Engineering or the physical sciences (Chemistry, physics, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience in laboratory quality control or materials testing, preferred but will train.
  • Familiarity with lab safety protocols and documentation practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with research teams.
  • Proficiency in maintaining electronic records and using lab management systems.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must have proven understanding of basic chemistry
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work with basic and sophisticated lab equipment
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Must be able to comply with all safety/work/procedures, rules and regulations

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • 12 months minimum in a lab environment
  • Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be drug and alcohol free

ADDITIONAL TRAINING REQUIRED

  • Training and Qualification packet completed successfully
  • All annual safety and role specific training, as required by the nature of this position

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Sit and/or stand for extended prolonged periods during 8 hour daylight shift.
  • Work overtime, as needed.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
