Engineer – Web Development

Your role in helping us shape the future:

This position provides maintenance and development support for web applications.  These applications serve as data presentation layer to improve flight operations and situational awareness for our fleet of geo-synchronous satellites.  You will also work with our team to design and implement a new web-based front-end GUI for our flight dynamics system and also be tasked with re-vamping our automation job scheduling system.  This will include some customization of a Java/JBoss EAP implementation, as well as a new web interface.  This would be done in conjunction with other developers as our code is moved to a Linux environment.

In addition, you may be given training to perform flight dynamics operations for our geo-synchronous satellites.

Are you up to the challenge?

  • Work with the flight dynamics team to define and implement web-based applications and tools to improve situational awareness and operation workflow.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify existing and new features in the existing flight dynamics GUI that would need to be implemented on the new web-based GUI.
  • Cooperate with the other developers to define and implement the communication between the front-end and back-end of the flight dynamics system.
  • Evolve the existing script automation system to a newer version JBoss EAP and create a new web interface.
  • Train Flight Dynamics Operations staff in the use of the web-based applications and tools to help enforce the consistent use of these tools.
  • Maintain all flight dynamics web-based applications.
  • Ensure that all code is maintained under a company approved configuration management system.

Can you drive these processes?

  • Ensure that our engineers have the data they need, when they need it.
  • Gather requirements for new tools and displays.
  • Design database tables to hold data currently store in scatter locations and unfriendly formats.
  • Collaborate with the other developers to ensure that all tools work seamlessly together.

You should definitely have:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Computer science, engineering, physics degree preferred
  • Established computer skills in the fields of web programming and database applications (JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, jQuery, SQL, XML) required.
  • Demonstrated experience with applying systems engineering tools and techniques throughout the life cycle of a project.
  • Must have comprehensive problem-solving skills and general engineering knowledge pertaining to quality, reporting and processes.
  • Excellent communications skills - both written and verbal

It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience with Java or JBoss EAP is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Wordpress or similar web framework is desirable
  • Knowledge of satellite flight dynamics is a plus.
