The Director of Technical Market Intelligence is responsible for collecting and maintaining competitive research to create a deep and actionable understanding of customer technical requirements and product needs. The emphasis of this position is “technical” in scope, in that it will focus on gaining tactical level understanding of customer technical needs (present and future) with respect to products and technology solutions. This position is responsible for managing a customer learning cycle that generates vital voice of customer information insights to guide commercial direction, vets business cases, and corrects the course of NPI projects in real time. Working closely with internal business teams, this position must synthesize and convey data-driven findings into clear and structured insights.Duties and Responsibilities
Research and understand the utility market landscape in areas of sensing, automation, communications, control, analytics, and any other key technologies associated with smart grid type of applications. Gather information from customer interaction, internal experts across the enterprise, consulting experts, and published industry information.
Vet project business cases by conducting quick and thorough market research on critical assumptions with regards to voice of customer feature requirements, technology requirements, technology limitations, estimated price points, and likely demand volume. Help to assure technical and commercial realism in all business cases.
Support active NPI projects in real time by generating insights to correct the course of development. Utilize rapid LSU style customer-learning cycle techniques and demonstrate continuous success in quality and quantity of customer learning insights.
Participate with peers in the development of growth strategies in the areas of product development, acquisitions, and organizational development.
Centrally organize market intelligence in a manner that is most effective for all appropriate parties to utilize. Generate market intelligence documents that are visually intuitive toward conveying important commercial insights.
Use consultative experts where appropriate; managing their efforts to ensure needed deliverables within budget. Manage regular updates to senior business partners on progress and actionable insights related to competitive positioning and strategies.Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent
10 years' experience
Excellent written and verbal skills. Solid public speaking skills.
Strong attention to detail, and excellent organization and time management skills.
Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary functions (engineering, sales, operations, etc.)
Highly motivated to develop expertise in industry trends and the use of data and analytics to recommend meaningful growth strategies.
Flexibility in shifting day-to-day activities to support a dynamic team environment.
Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
