Broad Function:

The Director of Military Programs provides leadership for all phases of military programs from inception through completion. This position will lead the development and execution of FNs military product strategy and is responsible for the overall life cycle of FN Americas military products. Director is the focal point for military program activities, including interaction with customers and oversight of military projects and proposals to ensure critical KPIs and timelines are being met. This position will maintain effective communication with customers, direct reports and senior management team to ensure resources are identified and assigned as needed to meet program requirements including technical, schedule and cost performance.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Participates in setting the strategic direction for the military business, implement plans to capture new and follow-on business and oversees the development of the military product plan and roadmap.

  • Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual obligations.

  • Approves resource planning requirements, effort estimates and program management workload; Establish direction for functional team and direct reports across programs to balance overall priorities.

  • Provides oversight of cost, schedule and technical performance of programs while meeting customer needs per agreed upon commitments.

  • Acts as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer to discuss performance metrics, cost, and schedules.

  • Coordinates the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms, and contract requirements.

  • Collaborates with all stakeholders, including military leadership and customers, FN worldwide product teams, business development, contracts, legal and compliance, industry professionals, manufacturing, and R&D to ensure success of programs.

  • Identifies, assesses, monitors and mitigates risk throughout the program life cycle (cost, schedule, manpower, and performance).

  • Coordinates with Contracts on contract negotiations, issues pertaining to contract requirements, changes, and interpretations and with other departments on resolution of contractual problems with the customer. Assures contract requirements are executed in accordance with appropriate regulations and company policies and procedures (e.g. federal acquisition regulations).

  • Oversees and facilitates preparation of companys responses to military solicitations and requests for information.

  • Presents comprehensive product business plans to executive team for review and approval. Keeps executive team abreast of current and anticipated military programs, trends and intercompany developments.

  • Champions best practices to drive the successful achievement of program objectives aligned with the business strategy. Continuously improve program management processes, tools, metrics, and policies that drive efficiency, alignment, and business success.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, business, program management, sciences, or other related discipline required, with MBA or equivalent degree preferred.

  • A minimum of eight years of program management experience in DOD business.

  • Program Management Certification (DAU, PMP) highly preferred.

  • Previous military experience is highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in cross-functional team leadership and business management required.

  • Exceptional program management skills required: demonstrated verbal, written and presentation capabilities; sound reasoning and decision-making ability; and strong analytical problem-solving ability.

  • Must have a strong business acumen and have developed or contributed to product development plans

  • Advanced knowledge and use of business concepts and accounting principles associated with the program cost and budgetary planning/control required. Demonstrated experience with advanced analytical and problem-solving skills a plus.

  • Subject matter expert in standard PM processes with in-depth knowledge of assessment methods, architecture, and work-flow analysis and program execution optimization techniques.

  • Must be able to effectively interface with engineering, manufacturing, contract, procurement, quality, and other key stakeholders. Inclusive management style: able to lead and motivate team members and be comfortable with raising issues in a timely manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to include, but not limited to, presentation and conflict resolution required.

  • Must have proficient computer skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office and Project

  • Extensive knowledge of product life cycle including design, engineering, manufacturing and marketing.

  • Ability to understand and evaluate technical and non-technical documents relating to all aspects of assigned programs or new business capture targets.

  • Ability to plan, organize, communicate and direct the day-to-day activities of multiple development, production or life cycle support Programs.

  • Well organized; ability to meet deadlines; self-starter; and multi-task oriented.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands in a tactile manner. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk or listen. The employee must occasionally walk, sit and reach with hands or arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
