Database Administrator 3 (N-IT)

 

 

Flux is currently seeking a Database Administrator 3 (N-IT) to join our project team onsite with our client in Vancouver, WA. This Database Administrator position will work within the Software Infrastructure & Support Services organization. This position will assist in maintaining a SQL Server enterprise environment, providing support for dozens of highly available SQL Server clusters in a secure multi-network environment. 

 

Position Responsibilities include:

 

  • With oversight and approval by the Manager:
  • Perform Enterprise Database Administration tasks within Microsoft SQL environments, including:
    • Install and configure Database Management Systems (DBMS)
    • Stay current on available DBMS patches and apply them as needed.
    • Backup and recovery
    • Monitor DBMS for potential issues such as amount of storage space consumed, access time statistics, and frequencies of reads and writes that may impact operations.
    • Performance Tuning
    • SQL Server Instance Security Management
    • Implement and maintain real-time and batch database replication.
    • Command line database management using:
    • Microsoft SQL – ISQL, OSQL, SQLCMD, BCP
    • Install and utilize command line and GUI management tools to provide monitoring, administration and configuration management on Microsoft SQL database engine.
    • SQL Server Management Studio
    • SQL Server Profiler
    • Create and/or maintain documentation relating to DBA processes and procedures.
    • Write and/or maintain PowerShell scripts to automate processes such as monitoring/alarming on volume growth, performance bottlenecks, batch scheduling, and connectivity failures.
    • Analyze the Windows Server and/or DBMS and CCN environment for processing and performance tuning as well as recommend required system modifications.
    • Provide developer and end-user support for databases including maintaining existing views and procedures, performance tuning, and troubleshooting database problems as needed.
    • SQL Server Instance consolidation
  • Model databases both OLTP and OLAP
  • Reverse engineer a database to be able to effectively mine the data and report on the results
  • Create complex stored procedures from user requirements
  • Provide effective performance tuning for SQL stored procedures
  • Implement and administer Microsoft SQL Server in a Windows cluster environment.
  • Create custom reports using SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Perform Windows Server administration:
    • Software installation
    • Monitor server for problems and availability.
    • Patching
    • Active Directory
    • Clustering
    • Automation of administrative tasks, such as backups and monitoring, using PowerShell
    • Provide Windows Server support for users including maintaining privileges, installing applications, performance tuning, and troubleshooting problems as needed.
  • Develop, facilitate and maintain documentation of procedures and processes used in the development, integration and deployment, triage, troubleshooting and implementation of corrections to all supported systems.
    • Provide regular and frequent updates to documentation of processes in team’s toolset
    • Track system additions and changes and maintain related documentation.
    • Provide a sustainable IT infrastructure by supplying cross training and functional documentation
  • Participate in project and/or technical meetings as requested by manager to provide technical recommendations from a DBA perspective on the risks, impacts and strategies related to process and project decisions.
  • Communicate with a wide variety of technical and business experts, within as well as outside vendors, in both individual and group settings using email, self-generated documentation and presentations.

 

Position Requirements:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Information/Computer Technology or a related technical discipline is preferred.

10+ years of experience in Computer/Information Technology or related field is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Certified Microsoft SQL Server DBA (SQL 2012 or newer)
  • Knowledge of Windows server (2012 or newer) failover clustering
  • Knowledge of Windows server (2012 or newer) operating systems
  • Experience with Database Design and Development, to include:
    • Data modeling
    • Ability to create stored procedures from user requirements
    • Ability to effectively performance tune SQL stored procedures
  • SQL Server Business Intelligence (BI) tools
    • SQL Server Analysis Services
    • SQL Server Integration Services
    • SQL Server Reporting Services
    • SQL Server Data Tools
    • SQL Server Report Builder
    • Business Intelligence Design Studio
    • Visual Studio
  • Experience with Database Management Tools:
    • Microsoft SQL –  SQL Server Management Studio and SQL Profiler
    • Certified Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later and/or MySQL 5.x or equivalent DBA experience desired
  • Experience with Windows Server 2008 or Newer
    • Windows Server administration or Software installation
    • Microsoft Remote Desktop.
    • Windows Server Failover Clustering
    • Utilize Microsoft Office tools to document processes and procedures.
    • Automation using Windows PowerShell or VBScript
    • Remote management tools. Such as Microsoft Remote Desktop.
