Summary:
Performs manual and automated routine blood and body fluid tests in the clinical laboratory. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks and may perform phlebotomy. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Responsibilities:
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:
☒ Neonate (birth – 28 days)
☒ Infant (29 days – less than 1 year)
☒ Pediatric/Child (1 year – 12 years)
☒ Adolescent (12 years – 18 years)
☒ Adult (18 years – 65 years)
☒ Geriatric (over 65 years)

2. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Laboratory as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes but is not limited to the age of the patient served.
3. Performs waived and moderate complexity testing and/or high complexity testing as defined by CLIA.
4. Performs preventative maintenance and routine troubleshooting on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
5. Documents on instrument logs, the preventative maintenance, repairs and replacement of needed equipment for instruments.
6. Verifies instrument function by checking and calibrating automated instruments and documenting data.
7. Has specialty instrument training.
8. Participates in instrument evaluations, recommends measures to improve testing procedures and use of equipment.
9. Has a specialty in one department or cross trained in multiple departments.
10. Meets deadlines for such things as competency, safety, procedure manual review, compliance, new test training.
11. Accurate error-free work as defined by department coordinator (corrected reports, repeat batch testing, QC failures, sample adequacy/integrity, computer entry errors, technical errors, etc.)
12. Displays advanced problem solving and decision-making skills.
13. Performs Quality Control, reviews daily QC and takes appropriate action, Documents QC appropriately, and Documents corrective actions for QC problems.
14. Assists with orientation of personnel and trains and supervises students as assigned.
Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology required.
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
SKILLS:
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.
Other Certifications/Requirements:
Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) certification obtained through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or equivalent within one year of hire required.
