Description

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the curriculum, instructional methodologies, and evaluation of ultrasound clinical and didactic education provided to residents.

The Emergency Medicine core faculty provide instruction and evaluation of resident physicians as required to meet the educational objectives of the program and to assure supervised participation of resident physicians in clinical care at a level appropriate to their training and experience. The faculty are selected based on qualifications, expertise in their field of practice, commitment, and desire to function as a teacher and clinical supervisor. Faculty must be qualified by training and experience to perform this role and be proficient in their areas of practice.

Qualifications:

  • The Ultrasound Director must possess the requisite specialty expertise and competence in clinical care and teaching abilities, as well as documented educational and administrative abilities and experience in their field
  • At least two years of experience as a core faculty member of an ACGME accredited Emergency Medicine Residency is desirable.
  • Leadership capabilities including excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Additional training, experience, and certification in ultrasound is required
  • Documented track record of publication in scientific per-reviewed journals or other publications.
  • Current certification in the specialty by the American Board of Emergency, or possess qualifications judged to be acceptable by the Program Director, Designated Institutional Official, and Graduate Medical Education Committee.
  • Be appointed in good standing to the medical staff of TriStar Skyline Medical Center and must have an unrestricted license to practice medicine issued by the State of Tennessee.
  • Must have an appropriate faculty appointment in the medical school.

Reporting Relationships

  • The Ultrasound Director reports to the Program Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, maintain and improve the emergency medicine ultrasound curriculum based on current national standards and best practices, as well as anticipated changes in technology and utilization.
  2. Develop, maintain and improve the quality assurance process for the review of ultrasound studies performed in the emergency department by residents and faculty.
  3. Develop ultrasound research initiatives.
  4. Direct the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Rotation.
  5. Evaluate resident competency in the utilization and clinical interpretation of ultrasound studies.
  6. Liaison with the Department of Radiology.
