Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ:CENT and CENTA), is a leading innovator, marketer and producer of quality branded products for the pet and lawn and garden supplies markets. Our Central Pet Distribution Center located in Hamilton, NJ is searching for an Inside Sales Representative to join our team.

This position is responsible for generating leads, advancing the sales process, closing new business and achieving/assisting in the achievement of opportunity-based sales quotas. The Inside Sales Representative will conduct research to identify leads and reach business targets through telephone, email, and in person. This role, as needed will assist in Customer Experience depending on business requirements.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Develop sales opportunities by researching and identifying potential accounts.

  • Collaborate with appropriate team members to determine necessary strategic sales approaches

  • Maintain and expand the company's database of prospects.

  • Ensure follow-up by passing leads to appropriate team members with calls-to-action, dates, complete profile information, sources, etc.

  • Where necessary, support marketing ensuring all promotional activity, vendor communications and campaigns are presented and communicated.

  • Make outbound follow-up calls to existing clients via telephone and email cross-sell and up-sell.

  • Handle inbound, unsolicited prospect calls and convert into sales.

  • Emphasize product/service features and benefits, quote prices, discuss credit terms, and prepare sales order forms and/or reports.

  • Attend periodic sales training where applicable.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Central Pet vendor personnel

  • Handle large volume of inbound and outbound calls to clients

  • Process all orders and credits with high accuracy

  • Demonstrate customer satisfaction best practices (follow up and notification)

  • Maintain customer profiles and interactions through the utilization of Salesforce

  • Collaborate with other departments to assist in solutions for clients

  • Coordinate a problem-solving approach when resolving challenges

  • Efficient time management and meeting all department objectives

  • Assist in developing continuous improvement plans for respective market

  • Effective order management, credit and report processes

  • Meeting or exceeding sales objectives provided

  • Performs other assigned tasks and duties necessary to support the Order Management team

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

  • College Degree preferred, and/or 2+ years of: animal retail experience; field sales experience and/or previous sales experience.

  • Excellent phone etiquette, exceptional follow up and follow through, strong product knowledge of the Central Pet product line up, and a calm, pleasant, helpful demeanor

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and analytical skills

  • Strong attention to detail, goal oriented

  • Possess process improvement mindset with a desire to consistently look for ways to improve efficiency and service

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Perform multiple tasks effectively; prioritize and respond with appropriate sense of urgency

  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Prelude and Cognos preferred but not required

  • Some local overnight travel (3-5 nights annually) and occasional air travel (1x per year) could be required
