Boone Hospital Center is a 394-bed full service hospital located in Columbia, MO. It is a regional referral center located in the center of the state. The hospital provides progressive healthcare programs, services, and technology to people in 26 mid-Missouri counties. Although the hospital is full service, areas in which Boone Hospital Center excels are cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgical, obstetrical services, and numerous other specialties. The hospital maintains a 24-hour emergency center with hospital-based ambulance service and a helipad for incoming emergency air transportation.  Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Boone Hospital Center has been certified as a "Magnet Hospital" by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
 

Security Services provides general security to hospital-controlled 43-acre campus. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, medical staff and employees. Duties include; creating name badges, company vehicle checkout and maintenance, monitoring fire and non-emergency alarms, access control, closed circuit TV monitoring, parking lot enforcement, vehicle assistance, incident investigations, infant alarm system, lost and found and morgue duties.


Overview

Role Purpose

The Entrance Screener works with the safety and security team to ensure the safety of those entering a BJC facility by screening each person at the designated entry points. This position enforces the most current policies and practices related to access and visitation. The Entrance Screener is the face of BJC and must maintain a customer-centric approach while clearly articulating requests.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, employees, visitors, and vendors at designated entry points by taking each person's temperature, asking the most up-to-date screening questions and following current screening policies and procedures. Provides direction on how to proceed if any of the screening procedures/questions are failed.
  • Directs visitors and vendors based on guidance for authorized access during restricted visitation. Thinks through any complex visitor situations and escalates to leadership/security as needed.
  • Documents and maintains various logs related to checkpoint activity and submits to manager as required. Provides just-in-time training to the oncoming screener to review updates and current processes.
  • Works collaboratively with various departments to ensure current safety and security guidelines are adhered to.
  • Follows infection prevention and control guidelines when handling equipment and supplies. Maintains and communicates supply needs as directed.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
