Overview

Role Purpose

The data integrity analyst is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and maintaining data integrity within the MPI and Epic electronic health record for the BJC system. This includes remediation of duplicate medical record numbers, overlays and correction of any clinical and demographic information. Using various research methodologies, evaluates the demographic and quality indicators associated with each occasion of service. The master patient index (MPI) is a critical business function and resource because it links a patient to demographics, clinical and financial information. The Epic Electronic health record must contain accurate, timely, and complete patient data that include a single identifier for each patient registered to ensure patient safety and privacy. Ensures integrity of Master Patient Index and chart corrections and preserves the integrity of the Legal Health Record in adherence BJC policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Compliance, Risk Management and BJC Leadership on investigating Medical ID theft and HIPAA violations, resolving and performing any necessary systems corrections for misuse of patient information by an outside source or entity. Notifies the source and down streams of the overlay, so that information can be verified and corrected in their data base.
  • Identifies, investigates, expedites and performs any necessary systems corrections for overlays/patient chart by multiple sources. Notifies the source and down streams of the overlay/chart correction, so that information can be verified and corrected in the data base. Partner with the MPI Patient Identity team to ensure corrections in the Epic medical record are performed to resolve overlays within expected turn around standards.
  • Performs and verifies the necessary systematic combines/merges of duplicate patients in the appropriate systems based on specific criteria outlined in MPI Policy and Procedures. Verifies Patient Merge(s) to ensure that patient matches have been completed correctly. Monitor chart correction work queue and assures timely completion of listed items. Coordinates and performs corrections and amendments to the Epic medical record.
  • Identifies and performs any necessary systems corrections for patients when incorrectly added to the MPI from various sources. Changes include but not limited to name, alias, and date of birth, gender and social security number. Provides appropriate validation of the requested corrections to the medical record.
  • Resolves Service Now tickets, Share Point site requests, emails, phone calls, etc within the time frame allotted by each system. Requires effective communication with both BJC customers as well s those external to the BJC system.
